Beauty treatments and trends come and go but every now and then there’s that one treatment that you can’t imagine your life without. For me, that treatment is eyelash extensions – I absolutely LOVE getting a fresh pair of lashes and I love the freedom of having lash extensions. For a few weeks, it’s bye-bye mascara and hello to waking up beautiful and ready to go. Of course, everyone’s go-to beauty treatment is different so I thought I would put together a list of must-try new beauty treatments and trends to look out for in 2016. From microblading to skinboosters, you’re bound to find one you love.

Get the brows you crave with microblading

Semi-permanent brows, eyebrow embroidery, 3D brows, or microblading is all the rage at the moment. The results of this new treatment typicaly last between 1 to 2 years and offers the client the appearance of fuller, perfectly shaped brows. The results are achieved by tattooing the visual effect of distinct hair strokes onto the brow area without damaging or inhibiting hair growth in the future. Women the world over are flocking to beauty salons to have the procedure done as it offers a natural-looking result without looking like a tattoo. In fact, the drawn hairs look identical to real hairs and are added using a super thin disposable needle. The treatment takes about 1.5 hours and consists of ‘stroking’ the blade through the skin to create a ‘hair like’ mark or feathering effect, which implants the pigment very shallowly. Clients who have suffered from hair loss, over-tweezing, or scars on the brows are the perfect candidate for this treatment but it’s also perfect for women who have thin brows or women who want thicker or longer brows with better symmetry.

If you’re in Cape Town then word on the street is that Urban Beauty Lounge in Gardens is the best of the best when it comes to microblading. Urban Beauty Lounge charges R2000 for a 2-hour treatment and you can find out more about the treatment and salon by visiting the Urban Beauty Lounge website. Hydrate and treat wrinkles with Restylane Skinboosters

Restylane skinboosters

I’ve always been weary of injecting stuff into my skin but I am so happy I gave Restylane a try! The Restylane Skinbooster offer a fresh approach to skin rejuvenation by offering improved skin elasticity, firmness, and skin hydration with no down time. If you’re looking for a subtle solution to skin roughness, fine lines, dehydration, skin imperfections or depressed acne scars then this is the treatment for you. This injectable Hyaluronic gel is super safe and is designed to deliver natural-looking, lasting hydration and improvements in skin quality. I tried it and walked away with beautifully glowing skin. Ideally, the product is designed to be used on aging or sun damaged skin anywhere upwards from 35-years old but anyone from their late 20s up can benefit from the product – as they say prevention is always the way to go! I also love that the product can be used on the face, hands and decolletage and results can last up to 12 months! You will need to go for a course of three treatments, of two – four weeks apart in the beginning but thereafter you will only need to maintain your results once a year. I’ve been for just one treatment so far and am already loving the results. My skin feels hydrated and smooth and I can only imagine the results after the full course.

Treatments start from R1500 for just the eyes to R3000 for the full face – depending on where you go. Of course, treatments must be supervised by an aesthetic doctor! I was treated by Dr Michelle Emett from Refine Anti-aging & Laser Clinic in Hermanus ( Capetonians can visit DrMignon Laub at Just Skin Clinic in Greenpoint ( or at Fresh Wellness at The Cellars Hohenhort Constantia.

Stimulate hair growth with Vampire Hair Growth Treatments

PRP Platelet Rich Plasma hair loss

By now you’ve no doubt heard about the Vampire Facial or PRP (platelet rich plasma) Facials. But, the new big thing in PRP isn’t about the face at all, it’s all about the scalp! That’s right, this miracle treatment is heading to the scalp to help women, and men, who suffer from thinning hair, to stimulate hair regrowth. The great thing about this treatment is that it’s non-chemical and non-invasive and it’s a great option for those who are at their wits end. In PRP treatments platelets and plasma are separated from a sample of the patient’s own blood and then mixed with stem cells. From there the concoction is injected just below the surface of the scalp before a doctor uses a spiked derma roller to induce microtrauma to the skin on the scalp. This microtrauma helps to activate the platelets and tells the PRP mixture where to do its job. The treatment offers great results in areas with thin, weak hair and patients typically see results after three treatments over three months. It typically takes another three months to measure the improvements. Over time, the course of treatment may need to be repeated depending on the patient’s response to therapy, hair loss condition and goals.

The treatment should be available at any medical aesthetics centre offering the Vampire Facial but it’s best to book a consultation with the doctor at the centre to discuss your needs before booking the procedure. The treatment is offered by Dr Reza Mia in Killarney, Johannesburg at R4500 per treatment. For information on the centre and the treatment visit Dr Reza Mia’s website here. Get lashes to lust after with Russian Volume Lashes

 Urban Beauty Lounge.

Russian lashes are the latest craze in eyelash extensions. If you have ever had eyelash extensions before then you will know that even the softest, mink lashes can feel heavy and unnatural. Which is why women all over the world are freaking out about these new Russian Volume Lashes. They’re great for ladies who want to have striking voluminous lashes without the weight. The result is fluffier, more natural looking lashes that will blow your mind. I love getting lash extensions but while I’m blessed with long lashes I’m always looking for more volume and this seems to be the perfect solution. Russian Volume Lashes are achieved by applying multiple lash extensions to each natural eyelash in a fanned shape. This can result in having 200- 500 eyelash extensions applied to each eye, rather than the regular 80-100 extensions per eye with the classic 1:1 eyelash extensions. The extensions used are even lighter, and finer than Siberian Mink Eyelash extensions, which means multiple lashes can be applied without damaging the lash, looking “clumpy”, or feeling too heavy and unnatural. Ladies can choose from a range of different effects including 2D (approximately 200 lashes per eye) 3D (approximately 300 lashes per eye), continuing up to 5D. Of course, Russian Volume Lashes can take a little longer than other lash services and can start from 2 hours for a 2D or 3D set and up to 3 hours for 3D to 4D set. The lashes also last a little longer as there are significantly more lashes per natural lash so these extensions are known to last up 4 to 5 weeks if maintained with refills.

If you’re in Cape Town then word on the street is that Urban Beauty Lounge in Gardens is the best of the best when it comes to Russian Volume Lashes. Urban Beauty Lounge charges R99 for a full set at 2 hours and you can find out more about the treatment and salon by visiting the Urban Beauty Lounge website.
