Cape Town has become a city for the stars recently. Cape Town’s increasing popularity as a film location and holiday destination for Hollywood stars means we’re more likely to spot a celeb sipping on a morning cuppa at a chic bistro or munching on a delicious meal at the hottest restaurants. Of course, not all spots are created equal, there are a few that are favoured by the stars. So, if you’re on the lookout for Charlize, Kanye, Taylor or Halle, then you need to pick your venue right. Here are a few celebrity-favoured venues in Cape Town.
Societi Bistro in Gardens has an acclaimed Italian/French menu that’s drawn the likes of Meryl Streep, Kenneth Branagh, Katie Holmes, as well as Claire Danes and the rest of the cast of Homeland, who regularly ate there during filming.
Thanks to an extensive cocktail menu and delicious canapés, The Planet Restaurant & Bar at the Mount Nelson Hotel is a firm favourite amongst celebs. This spot has reportedly attracted the likes of Pierce Brosnan, David Bowie, Iman and Samuel L Jackson!
Everyone loves Café Caprice but did you know that Leonardo di Caprio, Prince Harry and Zac Efron have also been spotted at the busy Camps Bay sundowner spot?
La Perla in Sea Point is a favourite of Graham Norton and Elton John, both of whom have homes on the Atlantic Seaboard in Cape Town. The eatery is arguably Cape Town’s oldest restaurant, serving Italian food, with an emphasis on seafood. The spot has also been recognised as one of the world’s top 20 Italian restaurants.
Orphanage Cocktail Emporium bills itself as “a humble, experiential cocktail house” with DJs, drinks and dinner. A portion of their proceeds go to the St Francis Children’s Home, founded after the flu epidemic in 1918. Cuba Gooding Jr must love it, because he was spotted there recently.
Mzoli’s Butchery is a popular township butchery and braai spot in Gugulethu that also offers live music. Jamie Oliver, Ryan Reynolds, Denzel Washington and the cast of the TV series Black Sails have all been seen enjoying shisa nyama at this local hangout.
The hearty, unpretentious Portuguese fare at the Dias Tavern in Cape Town’s East City Precinct is apparently a favourite of Sean Penn, who was back filming in the city this winter. He has also been seen at Truth Coffee, which was recently voted the world’s best coffee shop by The Telegraph.
