Cape Town continuously offers its best when it comes to dining options in the city and this brand new eatery is no different. Located above The House of Machines in Shortmarket Street, Picadas Latino Bar offers a taste of Latin American cuisine and culture to Capetonians looking for something a little bit different – during the day and at dinner time, diners can tuck into a menu of tapas and bites and stay on late into the evening to witness the restaurant transform into a Latin dance space where they can get a true taste of Latino culture.
A unique concept, the restaurant serves breakfast all day and includes options like a muesli bowl, avo on toast, and a chorizo sandwich. The rest of the menu for the day and dinner time offers a selection of ‘picadas’ – bites and nibbles. Try their signature beef, chicken or veg empanadas served with a delicious chimichurri. Other delights on the menu include the chicken schnitzel served on a bed of tasty potato-and-pea mash and the Argentinian Trio of steak done to your liking, smothered in chimichurri sauce and served on ciabatta with rocket and roasted cherry tomatoes.
Those with a sweet tooth will love the two dessert options: crispy churros or fluffy pancakes both served with dulce de leche. Their drinks menu includes a large selection of signature cocktails made by a talented, experienced barman, and the usual local wines and beers for those who enjoy their comfort zones.
Everyone is encouraged to get up and shake it at the end of the night so it’s best to go with a big group of people that knows how to have a good time. If there are a bunch of you, it’s best to book ahead of time as tables are limited.
