Gin lovers rejoice, KZN is finally getting a gin and tonic festival and it’s some of the best news we’ve heard all year. That’s right, the first weekend in June will now be known as the weekend of G&Ts and it’s all pretty convenient because it’s happening in the heart of Umhlanga. Keeping up with the fast growing gin and tonic craze, the very first Fitch & Leedes Gin and Tonic Festival is sure to be one of the most anticipated festivals to make its mark on Durban’s shores.
Taking place at the picturesque Chris Saunders Park in Umhlanga on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017, the trendy festival will offer gin lovers a day of great gin (of course), gourmet food, and entertainment from 11:00 – 20:00. Of course, the best thing about the festival is that it will be offering up the biggest variety of gin that Durban has ever seen, with 15 different types to whet your appetite. Brands showcasing their wares at the festival include big players like Cruxland, Beefeater, Bulldog, Gordons, Bombay Sapphire, Tanqueray, Seagrams, Strettons, Whitley Neil as well as local craft South African brands such as Durbanville Gin, Ginologist, Redstone Gin, Triple Three Gin, Woodstock Gin and The Generals Gin.
Gin enthusiasts visiting the festival can choose between a Gin & Tonic taster and make their way from gin stand to gin stand or dive right in and order a perfect serve Gin & Tonic, poured by the festival mixologists, before relaxing on the lawns to enjoy some local music from some of South Africa’s favourite musicians. If you decide to go on a mission to taste the full variety of gin available then you’ll be thrilled to know that your enthusiasm will be rewarded.
Upon arrival, festival goers will receive a limited edition branded glass and a “Rate Your Gin booklet” which you can use to rate each gin as you go. Get your booklet stamped at each stop and then hand in your completed booklet to the office on-site to stand a chance to win some amazing prizes, including a year’s supply of Gin and Tonic!
Limited tickets are available at R130 per person through web tickets. For more information visit the official Gin and Tonic Festival website.
