If you’ve got the cash to burn, there’s a super luxurious new way to fly thanks to Etihad Airways. Making use of the Airbus A380’s spacious interior, the flagship jetliner has installed a three-room suite on its upper level. ‘The Residence by Etihad‘ is designed for up to two guests travelling together who desire privacy, luxury and extreme comfort – things usually associated with travelling by private jet rather than commercial air travel.

The first of its kind in commercial aviation, The Residence includes a fully kitted out private living room with a Poltrona Frau leather double-seat sofa, dining table, chilled drinks cabinet and 32-inch flat screen TV; a separate bedroom with a double bed and 27-inch flat screen TV, as well as an en-suite bathroom fitted with a shower, toiletries and bathrobes. Guests of The Residence will also be waited on by an expert butler solely dedicated to them.

Of course, this kind of First Class travel comes with a rather hefty price tag. If you’re flying from Abu Dhabi to New York, for instance, expect to pay upwards of about $37,000 (over R500,000). Enough to make your head spin, but for those who can afford it, it’s sure going to be a one-of-a-kind way to travel.
