Shopping for a new car can be super stressful; there’s just so much to consider before you sign on the dotted line! Of course, with the ever-increasing petrol price, the one big thing to consider when buying a new car is fuel efficiency. It’s simple, these cars have been chosen not only for their fuel-efficiency but for their incredibly good looks as well. Because, let’s face it ladies, life is too short to have an ugly car!
1. Nissan Leaf
We couldn’t exactly have a list of fuel-efficient cars and not include the super cute Nissan Leaf! At 0.0l per 100km, the Nissan Leaf is tough to beat when it comes to fuel-efficiency because, well it doesn’t use any fuel but instead runs on an electric motor. The Leaf also offers a 7-inch touch screen with reverse camera including predictive path technology, intelligent key with push start as well as audio, hands-free Bluetooth, cruise control, and ECO mode steering wheel controls. We love this car’s adorable design and cute-as-a-button front nose! It’s steep price tag of R485 900 (which includes charger and installation) is, however, quite a hurdle when considering this car.
2. Ford Fiesta 1.0 EcoBoost, 1.4 and 1.6 TDCi
The Fiesta has always proved fun to drive and with its new facelift it’s just as fun to look at. Key features include 5-speed manual transmission, Engine Immobiliser, SYNC® with Bluetooth and Voice Control, Steering wheel mounted audio controls, Power, heated mirrors and a capless refuelling system. The Fiesta has mesmerised with its sleek design and we can just imagine ourselves looking super cool while driving around in one of these. 3. Audi A1 1.6TDI
This little powerhouse has become the darling of the Audi range. If it’s a small and dainty, fuel-efficient car you want then the A1 1.6 TDI is the perfect choice. The fact that this car looks a little like an adorable bug is also a bonus of note. Of course, Audis don’t come cheap so you will have to fork out a whopping R265 000 (or more) for one of these babies.
4. Mercedes-Benz A200 CDI
If you’ve had enough of tiny hatchbacks then this entry-level Mercedes will give you everything you need on the fuel economy front as well as plenty of torque to get you up the hills. features include reversing camera, and active park assist. This car just screams fashionista to us and we can just imagine what life would look like when cruising around in this beauty. It’s not cheap though and comes with R 375 000 price tag.
5. Volkswagen Polo 1.2TDI Bluemotion
This little firecracker will get you 3.4l/100km… when you’re cruising below 120km/hour that is! Although it might not be the prettiest on the block this little hatch does have its charms and is a breeze to park!
