Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common chronic diseases globally and whilst not life-threatening, symptoms can severely impact sufferers’ quality of life. Just ask any allergy sufferer and they’ll tell you how limiting the condition can be. More than 30 percent of South Africans suffer from nasal allergies, with numbers on the increase year-on-year, but luckily help is on the way thanks to a new over-the-counter product which works to ‘shield’ the nasal membrane from common allergens. Nexa AllerShield is a first for South Africa but the nasal powder spray has been available abroad, in more than 50 countries worldwide, for some time now. It is a top-seller in the US, Europe and Australia, and local experts have labelled it as a game-changer in the way nasal allergies and congestion will be treated in South Africa as well.
If you suffer with alergies you’ll no doubt want to test out this new wonder product which promises to offer up to 88 percent relief from allergy symptoms. The powder nasal spray contains natural cellulose powder to help block common nasal irratants from entering the nasal membrane.
The cellulose powder (called hydroxypropyl methylcellulose – HPMC), literally shields the nasal membrane from airborne allergens by forming a gel-like barrier. It addresses and controls allergy symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, tearing, nasal congestion, and itchy eyes and throat caused by common allergens like pollen, dust mites and animal dander. The product is also said to substantially improve the rate of Nasal Mucus Clearance and PNIFR (Peak Nasal Inspiratory Flow Rate) and reduce the need for rescue medication.
More than 20 clinical studies have been conducted to demonstrate its efficiency and because it is non-drowsy and medicine-free, it is suitable to be used by children over the age of 18 months, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women.
In addittion to Nexa AllerShield, the brand has also introduced three other clinically proven Nexa devices to SA: Nexa AllerShield Junior, Nexa TravelShield and Nexa FluShield.
All Nexa devices are available at leading SA pharmacies at R134.40 each.
