Beer lovers rejoice – if you’re sick and tired of being dragged to wine and food pairings every weekend, now’s your time to put your favourite brews in the spotlight. SAB World of Beer has announced a series of food and beer pairing lunches taking place on selected Saturdays in 2018, proving that beer isn’t just for chugging and loud nights out at the pub. The great news is, this isn’t a food and drinks pairing for sissies. Featuring a full five-course meal complemented by flavoursome SAB beers, diners attending these food and beer pairings should indeed arrive hungry. The pairings will be taking place one Saturday a month from July to December at the five-star home of beer in Newtown, Johannesburg and are sure to offer some new and exciting for beer lovers.
With the menu changing every month, there’s no reason you can’t book for each pairing dinner to spoil yourself and learn more about what goes into making the legendary SAB beers. Each course in the 5-course meal is paired with an SAB beer in order to enhance the flavours, textures and aromas of the dish and show diners that a great beer can, and should be appreciated as much as a fine wine.
The menu includes six SAB beers paired with dishes such as: Peppered Springbok Fillet with creamy mash paired with Carling Black Label; Ostrich Carpaccio with balsamic caramelised onions accompanied by Castle Lite; Boerewors Corndogs with a cold Hansa; Asian Pulled Pork Sliders with wasabi coleslaw, paired with red Irish Ale; Cape Malay Shrimp and Chicken Curry complemented perfectly by Carling Blue Label; and Cold Oak Wood Smoked Salmon paired with Crystal Weiss. For dessert, think along the lines of a decadent Chocolate Brownie with espresso anglaise, paired with a rich Castle Milk Stout; and a mouthwatering Banoffeee Cheesecake with No 3 Fransen Street Cream Ale.
The SAB food and beer pairings are priced at R420 per person and take place on Saturday 21 July, 25 August, 15 September, 21 October, 10 November and 1 December 2018.
