SA’s Silver Creek Distillery Launches Exciting Prohibition Era Craft Gin Duo

prohibition gin feature

The notorious Prohibition era saw a ban on liquor during America’s conservative Temperance Movement. This created the idea environment for illegal liquor trade including gin-making by moonlight and hidden underground speakeasies. This is the time where gang leaders like Al Capone made a fortune – it’s estimated that he was worth over R16-billion at the time. To salute those who challenged the law, local company Silver Creek Distillery brings us two brand-spanking-new gins made in the same style as in America’s 1920s Prohibition era.

Silver Creek Distillery rose to fame in 2017 with the launch of its moonshine range which earned five medals at the 2017 Michelangelo International Wine & Spirits Awards. The collection includes seven high-quality moonshines: the flagship Clear Shine and Charred Shine; and a bunch of flavoured shines like Apple Pie, Salted Caramel and Chocolate. Judging by the success, and quality, of its original collection of gins we can only imagine this new offering will knock it out of the park as well.

Exuding raciness and the razzle-dazzle of the era, the Silver Creek’s Prohibition Craft Gin and Prohibition Pink Gin offer an exciting, unique concept that gin lovers will adore. Handmade in small batches and distilled to fine spirit from carefully selected grains at the state-of-the-art Silver Creek Craft Distillery in Gauteng, this new gin is indeed a labour of love. At Silver Creek, they do everything by hand, ensuring extra special care and ultimate sophistication.

In a similar way that botanical flavours like juniper, coriander, lemon, angelica and cinnamon would have been used in the time of Prohibition, these craft gins are defined by a balanced, crisp burst of citrus followed by juniper and a hint of cinnamon. The spirit is bottled at 43% alcohol and is designed to be further enhanced with botanicals, fruit, herbs and good-quality craft tonics. The Prohibition Pink Gin is also bottled at 43% and is the original Craft Gin infused further with raspberries, blueberries, hibiscus flowers and rosewater. The result is refreshing, aromatic and romantic – to-die-for!
