Skinny Tan Body Mousse – A Natural at-Home Tanning Product That Really Works! [Review]

Skinny Tan Body Mousse

We all want to get a bit of a glow for the summer season but not everyone wants to spend all day baking in the sun. For pigment-challenged people like me, self-tanning products have been a real blessing but these products can contain all sorts of nasty ingredients that you don’t really want to be applying to your skin on a regular basis. If you’re obsessed with self-tanner then Skinny Tan is indeed a brand you will love. I got the chance to try the Skinny Tan Body Mousse and became instantly obsessed with this product which not only offers a killer natural looking tan but also promises to help improve the look of cellulite! Enough said, am I right?

Skinny Tan became a global success after appearing on UK TV show, Dragons’ Den. The brand went from startup to global success after its founders, Louise Ferguson and Kate Cotton, made the most successful pitch for investment in the history of the BBC2 TV show in 2013 netting a £60,000 investment from interior designer Kelly Hoppen and IT businessman Piers Linney, in return for a 10 percent stake in their business. After successful launches in the UK and US, Skinny Tan is now in South Africa with a wide range of products to suit every tanning need.

The Skinny Tan Body Mousse is a deep natural tanning mousse that claims to help tan, tone and dissimulate cellulite with no almost no fuss at all. Some of the biggest plusses for me when it comes to this product are that it’s cruelty-free and makes use of two certified organic natural tanning ingredients to give you a deep, natural looking tan. The organic coconut oil and organic Aloe Vera contained in the product leaves skin feeling smooth, moisturised and hydrated and is certified safe to be used on the body and face. As a gal who struggles with dry skin this tanning mousse really does go a long way to leaving your skin feeling super hydrated once it’s applied. Plus, thanks to the beautifully fresh smelling coconut oil, this mousse smells a lot better than most other tanning products on the market.

Another interesting ingredient in the Skinny Tan Body Mousse is the dash of caffeine sourced from guarana berries – this is where the ‘skinny’ bit comes in. As you may know, caffeine is often hailed as a cellulite buster and the caffeine included in the formula of this mousse will definitely help in your quest to improve the appearance of cellulite over time. I noticed that the product has a little bit of a firming effect when you use it but I haven’t been using it long enough to confirm if it makes a big difference to reducing the appearance of cellulite. Of course, having a natural glow will also help you to look slimmer and more toned so this product is a winner if you’re looking for a quick fix in that department.

If you’ve never used a self-tanning mousse before then it’s worth noting that a mousse will usually glide on a lot easier due to its liquid nature and I find that they tend to give you a much more even colour and a more natural looking colour than a cream-based product would. To make your life even easier you can invest in the Skinny Tan Tanning Mitt – this little mitt makes application super simple and of course, prevents the palms of your hands from getting stained. I never apply self-tanner without a mitt and I would highly recommend buying one! You’ll be able to get to those hard to reach places a lot easier and you can control the amount of product on dryer parts of the body (like ankles, elbows, and knees) a lot more effectively.

The product also contains a colour guide which allows you to see where you’ve applied product and where you haven’t as well as ensure a more even look after application. Once applied you need to let the colour develop for between 6 – 8 hours before having a shower. I absolutely loved the results of this product and found it to be very natural looking and not at all orange. Plus, once the tan developed I didn’t have any weird streaks or funny areas with a darker tone to it. Skinny Tan claims your tan will last up to 14 days, mine lasted about 4 or 5 days and faded very naturally, which for me is still a win!

The Skinny Tan Body Mousse is priced at R449,95 and is available from Dis-Chem, Wellness Warehouse and selected Clicks stores in South Africa. For more information visit the Skinny Tan South Africa website or say Hi to Skinny Tan SA on Facebook.
