For the past 7 years inner-city hangout, Tjing Tjing has been a favourite among locals and tourists alike but now, the vibey rooftop bar and downstairs restaurant, Tjing Tjing Torii, are set to undergo a rather dramatic makeover in both design and menu. While the team behind the restaurant and bar are keeping most of the details of the new look and feel close to their chests they have revealed a few tasty morsels of what we can expect when they reopen their doors in the coming weeks… and it sounds all sorts of fabulous!

Located in an almost 200-year-old building, Tjing Tjing is well known for its modern, unique take on Japanese cuisine and while the restaurant and bar has always showcased subtle touches of Japanese-inspired decor, with its shrine-red bar, Tokyo wallpaper, and bold window blinds, the new look and feel aims to take the Japanese influence to a whole new level.

After years of serving up casual breakfast and lunch fare to hungry city dwellers, the team will say farewell to Dear Me which will be replaced by a newly-renovated Tjing Tjing Torii. In it’s new home on the ground floor, Tjing Tjing Torii will give off Tokyo vibes with a youthful bustling energy, cosy bar area, and a quick casual dining experience from brunch-time until late. Think traditional Japanese brunch with tamago, bento boxes, sando boxes, gyoza, yakitori and ramen with a Tjing Tjing twist.

Tjing Tjing

Replacing Tjing Tjing Torii on the first floor is a brand new concept restaurant, Tjing Tjing Momiji. This elegant new space will offer a more fine dining experience inspired by the structure and detail of a classic Japanese kaiseki menu. Using seasonal, local ingredients, dishes will be created simply and deliciously with a typical 10 to 12 course tasting menu paired with wine and traditional sake. The to-die-for interior will be sophisticated yet subtle, broken up by black privacy screens – traditional Japanese elegance in an intimate setting. Adjacent to Momiji restaurant, the reservations-only Momiji Lounge will boast an extensive selection of specialty spirits and cocktails, Japanese whiskeys, sake, and a totally unique wine list to complement the tasteful dishes.

Last, but certainly not least, the award-winning Tjing Tjing Rooftop bar will remain mostly the same. The much loved bar is still open during the renovation period and continues to serve up some of the best cocktails in the city, along with a wicked playlist. And, for those looking for a taste of what’s to come from the bottom and first floor, there’s also a new selection of tasty bar treats to snack on at Tjing Tjing while enjoying the city view.

With so many exciting changes on the way there’s seems to be something for everyone to enjoy at the trendy same-same-but-different Tjing Tjing!

The new Tjing Tjing Torii is set to open mid-July 2018 with the opening of Momiji and Momiji Lounge following soon after. The Rooftop Bar remains open for business. For more information visit the Tjing Tjing website.
