1. Mysore Yoga Joburg – Colony Centre, Craighall

This unique studio offers traditional Ashtanga yoga classes for beginners and yoga fundis with sessions every week day between 06:00 and 08:00 and on Saturdays from 07:30 – 09:00. Mysore Yoga JHB often hosts international teachers for a few weeks at a time so there are loads of opportunities to learn from local and international yoga experts. These guest teachers are often some of the best in the world so if you’re looking to expand your yoga horizons then this is the place for you! The studio will host world famous yoga instructor, Laruga Glaser in February next year. So make sure you sign up soon and join them for this unique experience.

Unlike other styles of yoga, Ashtanga Yoga is great for both men and women and offers a vigorous workout. Ashtanga is great for fitness, strength and flexibility and offers a full-body workout. Of course, your mind will also benefit from regular yoga sessions and over time you will get a mental and physical workout from your Ashtanga sessions.

2. Zen Hot Yoga – The Wedge, Morningside

If you like to sweat it out then this Morningside studio will be right up your alley. This studio offers three different types of yoga classes including Hot 26 (Bikram Yoga practiced in a heated room), Flow (a class with strong emphasis on breathing) and Meditation. Classes take place from 06:00 – 18:30 most week days and from 08:15 – 16:30 on weekends.

If it’s something different you are after, then try the Hot 26 class. Hot yoga is great for those recovering from an injury, as it allows muscles to be worked and stretched with little chance of injury, and it’s great for detoxing. We also love that this studio offers outdoor ‘Sunrise Flow’ classes on the rooftop patio. These Flow classes allow you to practice your morning yoga while overlooking the beautiful views of Joburg’s northern suburbs below.

3. iYoga – Nicol Wellness Centre, Bedfordview


This urban sanctuary is a must visit for yoga lovers loving a little bit of variety in their lives. The studio offers Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Pranayama and more and is perfect for beginners who don’t quite know what type of yoga they want to practice. They also offer a beginner programme for R650 per person which offers new yogis a great foundation for starting their journey into yoga.

Classes take place at 09:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 17:00. You can also check out a 09:30 session on Saturday mornings.

4. Yoga Works Yoga in The Park – Emmarentia Botanical Gardens

We couldn’t list Joburg’s best yoga spots without telling you about Yoga Works Yoga in the Park! Join Yoga Works for an amazing early morning yoga Vinyasa Flow class every Sunday morning at the Emmarentia Botanical Gardens. These unique sessions will allow you to get your weekly dose of fresh air, sunshine, exercise and nature in Joburg. Plus, you’ll get to try out your tree pose under a real tree! It doesn’t get any better than that.

The 90-minute classes take place every Sunday morning at 09.30. Head to the Thomas Bowler Street parking lot at the garden’s northwest entrance. The class is accessible for all levels and costs R80 per person. All you need to bring is a yoga mat and some water (they do bring some spare mats for people who don’t have one)
