Reap the Benefits of Tallow Skincare with Erthology: A Wonder for Dry & Sensitive Skin, Eczema, & Psoriasis
After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
Tallow skincare is the latest sensation in the beauty world, and for good reason. As more consumers look to cut out potentially harmful and inflammatory ingredients found in many pharmacy skincare brands, tallow-based skincare products have emerged as a skin-friendly alternative. The products have been found to be especially helpful for those with dry and sensitive skin as well as for inflammatory skin conditions like Eczema and Psoriasis.
While the idea of using beef tallow as skincare might sound bizarre, the natural skincare ingredient was once a staple in traditional beauty regimens. Now, tallow is once again being recognised as a powerful skincare ingredient and praised for its deep moisturising properties, anti-ageing benefits, and its potential to help reduce inflammation.

How does beef tallow benefit the skin?
But why would tallow work these kinds of wonders on your skin? Beef tallow is a biological compound with lots of fatty acids, making it relatively compatible with our skin. Tallow is a natural emollient, which means it can help to lock in moisture in the skin. This makes it a great ingredient in products for dry and cracked skin.
Tallow contains vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E, and vitamin K, which are all results-driven ingredients currently used in skincare products. It also contains stearic acid, Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA), Palmitoleic Acid, and oleic acid which have anti-inflammatory, skin softening, hydrating, antibacterial, and repairing properties. These fatty acids and vitamins are beneficial for maintaining healthy skin, promoting healing, and improving skin elasticity.

It’s important to note, that the animal’s diet will have an impact on tallow’s characteristics. So when using beef tallow for skincare purposes you’ll want to look to a trusted tallow skincare brand, rather than attempting to make your own at home.
While tallow skincare has exploded online, the trend is still in its infancy here in South Africa with very few options available for consumers to access the benefits of tallow on their skin. Fortunately, local skincare brand Erthology is making tallow skincare more accessible to South Africans who want to try it for themselves. Erthology is unique in that the brand is bringing a luxury skincare experience to curious consumers. With Erthology you can commit to the tallow skincare experience without having to sacrifice the convenience of modern skincare products.

Hands-on with Erthology
After a few weeks of using the Erthology products on my skin I’m absolutely hooked. On my face, I’ve been using the Erthology Tallow Cleansing Oil (normal to dry skin) every night and the Plumping Face Balm every morning and night. I’ve also been applying the Plumping Whipped Tallow Butter on my body in the evenings.
My skin has been thriving with this new regimen and I’m quite taken aback at the difference the products have made to my hydration levels. My skin can be very dry, and to add insult to injury, I have psoriasis. This skin woes make me the perfect candidate to reap the benefits of tallow-based skincare.
I’ve become accustomed to waking up with my face feeling tight and in need of moisture but after a few weeks of using Erthology, my skin is feeling nourished, hydrated, and looking plump. I know longer wake up with that ‘thirsty’ skin feeling and even the rest of my body is not feeling as parched as it usually does. The longer I’ve been using Erthology on my face and body, the less product I’ve had to use with each application to get the same hydration results.
Erthology Cleansing Oil
The Cleansing Oil is a blend of grass-fed beef tallow and skin-loving oils. The oils in the formulation include Macadamia nut oil, olive oil, caster oil, jojoba oil, grapeseed oil, rosehip oil, argan oil, vitamin E oil, vanilla essential oil, and frankincense essential oil. The cleansing oil gently removes impurities and makeup, leaving the skin feeling soft, supple, hydrated and looking radiant. Just 3-4 pumps is all you need. I always go in on dry skin and massage the product in for a minute or two before rinsing it off with warm water and a soft wash cloth. I never need to use additional makeup remover when I’m using this oil, it works like a dream to remove anything on your skin without that stripped skin feeling.

Erthology Plumping Face Balm
After cleansing I apply the Plumping Face Balm. This nourishing balm is a blend of tallow, olive oil , jojoba oil, carrot seed oil, pumpkin seed oil, bakuchi oil, vitamin E oil, and Frankincense essential oil. This hard-working formulation goes beyond mere hydration to offer remarkable plumping benefits that work to restore volume and enhance the elasticity of your skin. I can definitely see a difference in my complexion after a few weeks of using this product. My skin looks fuller and more youthful.
The addition of anti-ageing powerhouse bakuchi oil (nature’s retinol) goes a long way to enhancing the anti-ageing benefits of this balm, helping to replace your usual anti-ageing day and night cream. By stimulating collagen production, it aids in restoring volume and firmness, helps to improve skin texture and tone, brighten the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Erthology Whipped Tallow Butter
The plumping Whipped Tallow Butter for the body has also made such a difference in my skin. I struggle with dry elbows and knees thanks to the psoriasis and this has been just the balm I need to treat those areas. This body butter provides deep hydration and is made with grass-fed beef tallow, macadamia nut oil, jojoba oil, arrow root powder, vitamin E oil, vanilla essential oil, and frankincense essential oil.
The butter is rich and super nourishing and works to really lock in moisture while also promoting healing and improved skin elasticity. The carrot seed oil in the formulation helps to repair skin damage and has a firming action to combat skin sagging. The addition of Rosemary and basil to the butter further helps to reduce skin sensitivity while plumping the skin. This is a great alternative to traditional skin firming creams for your bums, tums, and thighs if you’re looking for help in the skin firming department.
