Even for the most loyal fans, rugby can be all sorts of confusing. In between learning about knock-ons, conversions, and line-outs, there’s also the 15 positions on the field, each with a specific role and responsibility. Learning it all seems daunting to say the least. Fortunately, BrightRock is doing the most with an innovative online series designed to help new (and seasoned) rugby fans brush up on their rugby knowledge.

BrightRock teamed up with the Bulls and renowned sports broadcaster, Cato Louw, to produce ‘1 to 15: What rugby players actually do!’ Each episode features a one-on-one with a Bulls player to break down their position in a fun and casual way. Plus, you get to learn a little more about the player, the man behind the jersey!

We’re kicking things off with episode 11, the left wing, because there’s no avoiding the hype surrounding Vodacom Bulls winger, Stravino Jacobs. There’s a reason why he’s known as the ‘Rocket Man’ (evidence of his talents here). Fans have him pegged as one of the best wings on the field in South Africa at the moment (now there’s a handy tidbit you can casually bring up in conversation), so it’s only apt to look into what makes this man tick.

Apart from his natural talent, Jacobs puts in a lot of work to maintain his speed, skills and endurance on the field — one can simply take a look at his intense training regimen. Cato Louw sat down with the number 11 to hear more about how he trains and get insight into his position on the left wing.
