Finally – Tangle Teezer Launches Detangler for Thick, Curly, & Afro Hair! [Review]

love Tangle Teezer Thick and Curly

Ladies, I have been waiting my whole life for this hairbrush! No seriously, if 10 year-old me had this hairbrush it would have saved my mom a lot of daily frustration and me a whole lot of tears… tears of pain. When I was little I associated my thick, curly hair with pain and inconvenience. Washing my hair and detangling it afterwards was the biggest nightmare of all and by the time I was 12 my mother had given up all together and decided to let the hairdresser deal with my unruly hair instead. They, of course, struggled with my hair as well, and I’m quite sure I saw the shampooists duck and hide in the back whenever my mom and I came in. A few years later I discovered Tangle Teezer and life got a little bit (ok a lot better) but as much as I loved my original Tangle Teezer I’ve always felt like the teeth were juuuust a little too short for my needs. But now, finally, after years of waiting Tangle Teezer have heard my prayers and launched Tangle Teezer Thick & Curly just for ladies with thick, curly, and afro hair. Yes – what a time to be alive! Here’s more info on our Hero Product of the Week.

If I could have ask the gods of hair to design me a detangling brush many moons ago it would be just like the Tangle Teezer Thick & Curly. This brush can do no wrong and it slides through thick, unruly hair like a knife through butter – true story! If you’ve ever had a brush or a comb break in your hands while trying to comb out knots then this new brush is going to be your holy grail. I’ve tried all sorts of things to detangle my hair, including brushes, leave-in conditioners, oils, you name it, I’ve tried it. And, all of them have left me, literally pulling my hair out. That’s right, not much has worked to make my curly hair easier to manage until Tangle Teezer.

When I first discovered The Original Tangle Teezer I was over the moon, combing my hair out after shampooing was so much easier. I was in love. But, it was the kind of love where you know something is missing but you dare not say it because then they’ll leave and then  you’ll be all alone again. I’d always felt like my original Tangle Teezer’s teeth were just a few centimetres shy to really tango with my crazy hair but it did the job rather well for a few years so who was I to complain? But now, my silent prayers have been answered because finally, Tangle Teezer have designed a brush just for us ladies who secretly loathe dealing with our beautiful mops of thick, curly, unruly, and afro hair.

Just like The Original Tangle Teezer, Thick & Curly has no handle and is designed to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand. But, what makes this little guy so different from the original Tangle Teezer is the teeth. The bristles are longer (an additional 4mm) and stronger than The Original with teeth that are firm but flexible so hair is detangled and brushed with no pulling, tugging or tearing. This is the key because while you might have seen a few Tangle Teezer knock-offs on the shelves with the same convenient shape, the bristle quality just isn’t the same (trust me, I’ve tried).

After using the new Tangle Teezer Thick & Curly for over a month and a bit now I am quite confident in saying that there isn’t a knot this baby can’t conquer. I tend to get very stubborn, tight-knit knots near the tips of my hair and the Thick & Curly tackled them without a hitch. I love that the teeth are so long that I can feel them massaging my scalp as I comb it through my hair. And, the less tugging and tearing there is, the better it is for your hair. Using this brush you’ll find you have less split ends and your hair will just feel like it’s in a much better condition after washing.

So where can you buy this incredible brush of your dreams? The Tangle Teezer Thick & Curly is available at leading hair salons nationwide as well as online from Retail Box at R240 – click here to buy it now!

  • Thank you for the review! I was trying to decide on which model to get my daughter, who has thick, unruly, wavy hair. The colors of the original are so cute, so I really wanted to get her one. However, your review has sold me on the thick and curly model – not as cute, but will be much better suited to the job. Thanks again!
