Keeping it Compact: VW Hints at its Smallest SUV Ever
VW is set to provide drivers with an option for a smaller SUV, which they’re calling the T-Cross. It was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show as a concept, and will soon be hitting full production before it is released in several markets, so while we have an idea of what it looks like, its final production appearance is still a mystery.
VW mentioned that an increased demand for smaller SUVs prompted them to take the VW T-Cross’s design and production seriously, but a definite date for release has yet to be confirmed.
It will be 4,107mm long, and is billed as being as comfortable in the city as it will be for smaller outdoor excursions – meaning it’s ideal for the SA market. A lot of drivers have to do significant city commuting for work, but also want to be able to go on bushveld adventures when the urge hits them.
Rumours seem to suggest it’s looking at a 2019 release – but official details from VW will have to be confirmed before anyone starts planning any purchases.
It looks like it will be a big of a combination between the Cross Polo and another concept car they’ve discussed before – the T-Roc. An image of what is presumed to be the trial versions of the T-Cross have already hit the web, and it looks like it will compete well in the small SUV segment:
It’s clearly not quite as sporty as the original concept image was, but concepts always take more risks than production cars can get away with. The overall silhouette seems to have stuck, and judging by what little we can see, it has some sleek lines and a lower profile to other SUVs on the market.
Considering VW’s established brand loyalty in SA, whenever the T-Cross does hit showroom floors, it’s undoubtedly going to have a few willing admirers putting their names down for an order!
