Volkswagen Pays Homage to the Legendary, Citi Golf with Limited Edition Citi Vivo

Citi Vivo

Almost every South African student in the history of owned a Citi Golf back in the day, and the car is so popular that many of the 377 000 units produced are still used on our roads today for the daily commute. Because of the car’s cult status, Volkswagen has decided to pay homage to the legendary Citi Golf model with the introduction of the limited edition Citi Vivo. Available in the ubiquitous original three colours of red, yellow and blue which were used to launch the original Citi Golf in 1984, the new Citi Vivo offers South Africans a real touch of nostalgia.

In 2010, Volkswagen launched the Polo Vivo to replace the popular Citi Golf in the compact passenger car segment and while South Africans were sad to see the City Golf go, the Polo Vivo has gone on to be the best-selling passenger model in South Africa with 229 300 units sold to date. So, to celebrate the success of the Polo Vivo, Volkswagen thought it was time to pay homage to its iconic predecessor, the Citi Golf.

“The three colours of red, yellow and blue are synonymous with the classic Citi Golf so it was fitting for us to use them as the only colours for Citi Vivo,” said Stefan Mecha, Director: Sales and Marketing at Volkswagen Group South Africa. But, if you’re keen to get your hands on the new Citi Vivo then you’d better hurry up because the vehicle is a special edition with only 2 000 units planned to hit the South African market.
