Change the Way You Glow with Elemis’ Vegan, Superfood Skincare Range [Review]
Superfoods like kale, spinach, and blueberries are still all the rage in the health and nutrition world, but superfoods for your skin? Now that’s something entirely new… and oh-so-exciting! I’ve been a huge fan of Elemis for a while now so it came as no surprise to hear they were knocking it out of the park yet again with a new vegan, superfoods inspired skincare range.The great thing about Elemis is that their formulas continue to seamlessly blend natural ingredients with proven science, so a vegan, superfood focused range like this one was pretty much a natural progression for the brand. Their products work wonders for my sensitive skin so when I was given the opportunity to try the Elemis Superfoods skincare range I was excited to see what it could do for my skin.
Created with the pure power of concentrated superfoods, the Elemis Superfoods skincare range is all about nourishing and feeding your skin from the outside. This nutrient-dense, vegan-friendly range is ideal for anyone who is looking for healthier, fresher looking skin with a natural glow. Key ingredients in the range include the Supergreen and Supergrain Complexes – rich in anti-oxidants, omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals these formulas help nourish the skin. But that’s not all, the products in this range also include a Pre-Biotic which helps support the microflora on the surface of the skin. Having a healthy microflora on the skin’s surface is super important when it comes to building a healthy skin barrier and warding off all sorts of nasties and environmental aggressors that might aggravate the skin and lead to skin issues down the road.
The start-to-finish Superfood range offers four products including a Superfood Facial Wash (R550), Day Cream (R920), Night cream (R1,010), as well as the award-wining Superfood Facial Oil (R1,050). The Superfood Facial Oil is definitely the hero product of the range for me and if there’s only one product you buy from the range it should be this one. Having said that, the whole range does work beautifully together, especially if you’re hoping to reap all those superfood benefits.
I don’t usually spend loads of money on face wash but the Elemis Superfood Facial Wash is starting to change my mind. This gentle gel-like cleanser contains Wheatgrass Extract, Broccoli Seed, Kale Extract, Nettle Extract, Avocado Oil and Organic Pumpkin Seed to rejuvenate and refresh the skin while also priming it to absorb nutrients from skincare products that follow. I love it because it feels very soothing when applied to the skin and it leaves my skin feeling refreshed rather than tight and stripped down after cleansing.
The moisterisers in this range are also a must-try. Designed to protect and hydrate the skin, the Elemis Superfood Day Cream is loaded with botanical extracts and nourishing natural oils to help combat free radicals while also nourishing dry spots, plumping up the skin, and feeding the good bacteria that make up the protective skin barrier. This soft, silky cream absorbs quickly into the skin and leaves the skin feeling soft and looking radiant after applying. Key ingredients in this product include the Supergreen Complex (made up of Goji Berry, Broccoli Seed, Ginger Ferment, Matcha Tea, Daikon Radish, Green Mandarin, and Cucumber Seed) as well as Lactobionic Acid. These ingredients work together to make a hydration powerhouse and while I usually start to reach for a hydrating mist to rehydrate my tired skin in the afternoon, I haven’t had to do that since I’ve started using the Elemis Superfood Day Cream.
Like its daytime counterpart, the Elemis Superfood Night Cream is also super hydrating but takes it one step further with a few key ingredients to help aid skin repair overnight. Hyaluronic Acid and botanical oils in the product work as a protective barrier to nourish the skin while also also allowing active ingredients to penetrate the skin more effectively. This luxurious cream has a wonderfully rich texture and is scented with a calming blend of lavender, ylang-ylang and vetivert to help you drift off to sleep a little easier. Despite its rich and creamy formula, this night cream absorbs into the skin surprisingly quickly without leaving a greasy residue. Key ingredients in the product include Supergrain Complex (made up of Barley, Chia Seed, Quinoa, Black Seed, Flax Seed, and Rice Bran) as well as Sweet Almond Milk. This combination of ingredients not only help to hydrate the skin after a long day but they also work together during the night to give you soft, supple, and more radiant looking skin when you wake up in the morning.
Last, but not least, there’s the hero of the range, the Elemis Superfood Facial Oil. This award-winning oil contains the power of 9 anti-oxidants and omega-rich superfood ingredients to feed your skin and intensely nourish the skin while you sleep. This oil is beyond soothing and leaves the skin feeling like a million bucks after massaging it in. A little goes a long way and after a few weeks of using this oil at night it has become my favourite part of my bedtime routine. While you might be weary of using an oil on your skin just before bedtime, what is really remarkable about this oil is how fast it absorbs. Your skin has an amazing glow after applying and feels comfortably hydrated, without being greasy. The product contains a balance of Oleic and Linoleic-rich botanicals which won’t clog the pores, making the product suitable for all skin types. Key ingredients in this oil include the Superfood Complex (made up of Broccoli Seed Oil, Cucumber Oil, Daikon Radish Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Macadamia Oil, Poppy Seed Oil, Rice Bran Oil, and Rosehip Seed Oil).
