Tea Time is So Much Better with Chaplon Loose Leaf Teas [Review]

Chaplon Tea

You may already be aware of my tea snobbery, if not you should know that these days I find it very difficult to drink anything but high-quality loose leaf tea. Why? because good tea is pretty much the best thing ever. Tea is great for your health and wellbeing and no matter what your health concern there seems to be a tea that can help. feeling sluggish and tired? Drink black tea. Feeling like you need to detox? Drink green tea. The benefits are almost endless! So, why am I telling you all this? Well, it’s quite simple – I’ve found my new favourite tea brand! Made in Denmark using nothing but the best tea from Sri Lanka, Chaplon tea is a must-try for all tea lovers.

The luxury tea brand is relatively new to South Africa (it first arrived in the country in December 2014) but it already has a loyal following who love nothing more than steeping a pot of Chaplon tea at home or at work every day. Chaplon is a pretty big deal in Denmark and is sold in supermarket chains, delis, bakeries and tea shops throughout the country. It’s so beloved in Denmark that it is also served in the first-class carriages of the Danish Railway and at some of Denmark’s most fancy-pants hotels.

I love that Chaplon is big on sustainable practices – the company ensures that its tea is produced according to sustainable principles and believes that it should show respect for the land as well as its workers. This means no pesticides, fertilizers or chemical and reasonable working hours (6 hours a day compared to the 10 – 12 hours of other tea farms) and upliftment for workers.

With five exciting flavours available to South African tea lovers, Chaplon is a tea lover’s dream come true. I got the chance to sample the entire range and fell in love with the range. My favourites include the Full Moon tea (a fresh and light taste of citrus with a natural sweetness) and the Quince tea (a black and green tea with quince oil – delicious warm or as an iced tea). I prefer to enjoy my tea with nothing but a honey and a squeeze of lemon juice but you can also enjoy these teas with milk and sugar.

But they don’t just taste great, they look pretty too! Chaplon tea is packaged in large stainless steel tins, which can be re-used in your pantry for storing all sorts of other things. The large tins are priced at R225 per 190g tin and yield about 330 cups of tea. Chaplon Tea is available from selected delis in Cape Town and Joburg and as well as through the online store on the Chaplon South Africa website.
