Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel: Get Salon Results at Home with this Professional-Grade Peel [Review]

After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
Chemical peels might sound scary but these days they’re one of the most popular skincare treatments at salons and doctor’s rooms across South Africa. When you hear the words; “chemical peel’ you probably envision your skin sloughing off like some kind of monster from the deep, forcing you to stay indoors and avoid all human contact for days after. But in reality, most chemical peels can be done in your lunch break, without very much downtime, and offer exponentially better results than a simple facial. But listen; while I love how my skin looks after a peel, I can never find the time to actually book one. Luckily for lazy-slash-crazy-busy gals like me, Dermalogica has come up with a convenient at-home solution — Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel. This professional-grade at-home peel will not only help you maintain the results from professional in-salon peel treatments but will also reduce the amount of peels you have to go for in a year (hallelujah!).
Dermalogica is well known for its innovative, ahead of the curve products but the Rapid Reveal Peel is definitely one of their best yet. This maximum-strength exfoliant delivers powerful, visible results with no downtime and will give you that post-spa treatment glow without having to step foot into a spa. The product contains a complex of phytoactive AHA extracts, Lactic Acid and fermented plant enzymes to reveal new, firmer skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by removing dulling surface debris without causing dehydration. At the same time, Pumpkin Fruit Enzyme and Rice Bran Extract help even skin tone by resurfacing the skin and accelerating cell turnover. Lastly, smoothing Australian Caviar Lime Extract brightens skin for a more radiant complexion.
Fancy-pants skincare ingredients and claims aside, this product really works and you’ll start seeing results from the second or third use. I haven’t used such a great results-driven product in a long time and was pleasantly surprised to see that after just two uses, the fine lines around my eyes were already starting to look less pronounced and my usually dehydrated, dull skin was starting to look a little more radiant.
This product is so good at giving you visible results I was almost about to ditch my regular peel appointments all together. But, if I’m being completely honest with myself, I could tell that the Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel isn’t exactly on-par with professional treatments just yet. It’s a very, very close second though! I love the natural glow I get after using this product and I can see it’s going to be a huge help with maintaining the results I get from professional peel treatments in-between spa visits but realistically it’ll help me extend my spa visits to every 8 weeks instead of every month.
If you’re wondering how this product compares to a professional peel, Dermalogica rates its exfoliator strength levels by a bio-activity score. This bio-activity score is measured by the concentration of lactic acid and salicylic acid, the pH of the formula, and the presence of other exfoliant agents (such as papain retinol and rice bran) within the product. The higher the bio-activity score, the stronger the exfoliant. The Rapid Reveal Peel has a bio-activity score of 21, whereas Dermalogica’s professional spa exfoliant products, have a bio-activity score of 25, making the Rapid Reveal Peel impressively active for a home-use product!
Another great thing about the Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel is that it’s super easy to use. The product (or should I say products) come packaged in a super cute travel bag containing 10 single-use tubes of Rapid Reveal Peel. It is recommended that you use one tube, once a week and because it is such a powerful peel, it is vital that you follow the instructions correctly, do the peel at night, and always wear a good facial sunscreen for a few days after using the product. If your skin really needs a pick-me-up and you are looking to achieve accelerated results then you can also try the optional Kick-Start Phase. This involves starting your Rapid Reveal Peel regimen by using one tube every day for 3 days. After the third day, you will transition to using one Rapid Reveal Peel tube every week.
To use, you simply twist the top of the nozzle off, dispense the product into your hands and massage into your face. Leave the product on for 3 – 7 minutes, before rinsing off with cold water or wiping off with a cold, damp towel. If you are more sensitive start low and build up your time each time you use it until you can leave it on for the full 7 minutes.
There is quite a lot of product in each vial, almost enough to cover the face and neck twice, use it all if you can to achieve optimum results. Be very careful when you’re pouring out the product as the consistency is quite watery and could spill easily so pour just a little at a time and apply using your fingertips. If you’ve never used a high AHA product before you should know that you will experience a tingling or warming sensation on the skin the first few times you use this product. This is totally normal and should subside after a few uses as your skin adjusts to the maximum-strength exfoliant.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking to invest in their skin and achieve visible results that last. It’s not the cheapest product on the market but it will last you over two months and is highly effective, so it’s money well spent if you ask me.
Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel is available Dermalogica stores as well as select spas and beauty salons at R1,499.
