It’s that time of the year again! The much-loved La Capra Goat Run charity event is back for another exciting day celebrating the sights, sounds, and spirit of Paarl and La Capra. Taking place at Fairview Wine and Cheese from 07:30 on Saturday 9 September, the event marks the welcoming of spring and the kidding season at Fairview and is the perfect family day out.
The Goat Run is an opportunity for people from all walks of life to get into gear and raise money to support local charities including The Drakenstein Hospice, Boland School of Autism, Sunfield Home, Wellington Lions Club, Paarl Mountain Reserve and The Sunflower Fund.
A trail running favourite in the winelands that meanders through grazing cattle and sheep in the countryside, it includes a 5km fun run/walk as well as an 8km, 15km and 28km trail run. The 5km track is open to supporters of the Daniel and Friends Fund, while there are also buggy, pram, and wheelchair-friendly routes so it really is open to everyone including moms and tots. There’s also plenty of fun entertainment and prizes for the kiddies, so get everyone involved!
In addition to the trail, this year’s Goat Run also sees an array of food stalls and activities for runners and spectators to enjoy at the festival. Pop into Fairview for live music and delicious farm-style treats like freshly baked patisserie and healthy smoothies. And of course, there’ll be plenty of La Capra wine to go around – this time it’s in the form of wine on tap, a fresher, more environmentally friendly alternative, so make sure you enjoy this innovative new way to indulge!
Entry to the festival is free, while tickets for trail runners start at R200 for the 5km, R300 for the 15km and R500 for the 28km races. Children are welcome and walk free of charge and goodie bags are given to all participants. Tickets are available here and here.
