Just when we thought online shopping was the best invention, founders of a new retail space called EGG in Cape Town have taken things to a new level. The omnichannel retail store offers a new way to shop, and was opened in late November last year by Old Mutual property in partnership with well-known founders of brands such as Young Designers Emporium (YDE ) and Fabiani.
The uniquely name ‘EGG’ is a multi-dimensional 2700SQM retail store in Cavendish Square, Claremont that offers local and international small, medium and micro-enterprise (SMME) brands a space to peddle their wares.
The retail store is made up of 250 mini stores within the EGG store. The 250 stores ensure that consumers are able to access numerous services such as local clothing brands, skincare brands food and entertainment in one space.
Founder of YDE, Paul Simon stated that “Bringing SMME brands into quality physical retail spaces — and then supporting them with the costing, planning, data, supply chain and service elements that traditionally challenge start-ups — is not only a first for South Africa but represents a significant global evolution”.
EGG thrives on supporting local business and offers the opportunity for local brands to showcase their business next to distinguished local and international brands. EGG’s goal is to provide an affordable space for business to succeed to their full potential.
EGG is located on the first floor of the mall in the space previously occupied by Edgars. In the space, consumers have easy access to a wide range of local clothing brands such as Tespho Jeans, make-up brand Swiitchbeauty as well as well-known restaurant, Scheckters RAW. Other businesses include Sneaker Shack, Honest Chocolate, Unframed Ice Cream and Lilly Label.
If you’re keen to shop from home, EGG has thought of that too! The retailer has ensured that South Africans can experience the best of both worlds; allowing them to indulge in the experience in person as well as online with the use of the innovate, user-friendly EGG app.
With the launch of EGG, South Africans can enjoy shopping local and international brands whilst sipping on their favourite beverage or nibbling on snacks from the outlets available at the innovative retailer.
Shoppers from other parts of the country can envy the mother city’s first launch but will also be able to experience this innovative, smart and economically friendly retail channel in the future, as EGG plans to expand in other cities such as Durban and Joburg soon.
