Lamelle Hydrating Facial Review: A Godsend for Seriously Stressed Skin

facial

I’ve never had a facial come at a more opportune time. To say I was elated when I was invited to visit Scinmed to try the Lamelle Hydrating Facial is an understatement of note. Two months of poor diet and stress had wreaked havoc on my skin and caused my psoriasis to flare up on my face.

Suffice it to say, I was not having a good time, and I’d had enough of trying to mask the red, flaky patches that had sprouted up on my cheeks, chin, and around my eyes. It was time for some serious TLC and a reset. As it turns out, when it comes to rescuing seriously stressed skin, Lamelle is one of the best brands to turn to.

Experiencing the Lamelle Hydrating Facial

Of course, this wasn’t my first time around the block with Lamelle. I’m a huge fan of the brand and always have a few Lamelle products in my skincare cabinet at home. This was, however, my first Lamelle facial experience and wow, was it life changing. The 60-minute Lamelle Hydrating Facial is one of the signature Lamelle treatments offered at Scinmed, Wembley Square and is a must-try for anyone who is struggling with stressed skin.

The hydrating facial helps to soothe, calm and moisturise skin, leaving it feeling nourished and rejuvenated. This wonderfully calming facial is like therapy for the skin and left my skin glowing and transformed. The treatment includes an intense Hydration Mask that helps to bind water in the skin to improve hydration.

While the mask is a highlight of the Hydrating Facial, the steps leading up to the mask are also transformative and work to delight the senses and treat the skin. During the 60-minute treatment, you’ll experience all the usual steps you’ve come to expect from a luxury facial — like a gentle cleanse, exfoliation, steam, extraction, and more — just with a signature Lamelle twist.

As an add-on for the treatment, the therapist also included the Lamelle Lacti-firm peel. This lactic acid-based peel is a type of alpha-hydroxy acid (fruit acid) and is a fairly mild peel that works to gently strip away old cells on the skin surface to make space for new cell growth. It’s also combined with a plumping agent to help improve the skin’s condition almost immediately. When applied, the peel does cause a slight tingle sensation on your skin during the five-minute treatment and directly after when the neutralising agent is applied. There’s no visible peeling and no downtime with the peel, so it’s ideal for anyone looking to give their skin a quick pick-me-up.

My skin felt smooth, plump, refreshed, and oh-so-healthy immediately after this treatment, and I couldn’t have been more impressed with the results. Even better, my skin looked and felt amazing for weeks after the facial.

The beauty of this facial is that it’s also an incredibly relaxing treatment, so not only does it work wonders on the skin, but you’ll feel like you’ve had time to unwind as well. The wonderful environment at Scinmed greatly contributed to the relaxing atmosphere of this treatment. This was my first trip to the skincare and cosmetic centre, and I was super impressed. The beautifully decorated space has a wonderfully calming atmosphere, and the highly trained skincare therapists are exceptional, to say the least.

The Lamelle Hydrating Facial is priced at R600 and adding the Lactifirm Hydration Peel is an additional R650. Your Lamelle treatment at Scinmed includes a skin analysis before starting, so your therapist can ensure you’re getting the best course of treatment for your individual skin concerns. If you’ve been struggling with stressed skin after winter or your skin needs a serious reset, then do yourself a favour and spoil yourself with this wonderful facial.

But wait, there’s more!

Fortunately for me, and my skin, the fun didn’t stop there. After the facial, the Scinmed therapist prescribed a range of Lamelle products suited to my skin and concerns to help me maintain the results of the treatment long after I left the salon.

With the help of these products, my skin has stayed hydrated, healthy, and clear. The breakouts, redness, flaking, and irritation I was experiencing before the treatment has completely disappeared and after more than a month of using nothing but Lamelle, I almost can’t believe the difference. In fact, I’m kicking myself for not seeking out this course of treatment sooner.

The products prescribed by the Scinmed therapist included the Lamelle Serra Cleansing Gel, Serra Restore Cream, and Serra Lipid Recovery Mask. The Serra range has been specially created for dry and sensitive skin, and every product is truly magic in a bottle. The soap-and fragrance-free Lamelle Serra Cleansing Gel is a dual-effect cleanser that gently cleanses while enhancing the skin barrier. This hydrating gel cleanser has been a lifesaver for my skin and by therapist’s orders, I have been using it once a day (at night) and only cleansing with water in the mornings.

At night, I’ve also been using the Serra moisturiser. Lamelle’s skin hydrating hero, the Serra Restore Cream hydrates and soothes like a boss because it doesn’t just add moisture, but helps you lock it in too, thanks to skin barrier-repairing lipids like Lamelle’s patented Ceramide-P. Using this ultra-nourishing cream is my favourite part of my nighttime skincare routine.

For day cream, I replace the Serra moisturiser with the Lamelle Nourish Revitalise Lite Cream. This lightweight moisturiser is ideal for everyday use and is made with special oils that absorb super quickly. The big bonus in this cream is the added enzymes that counter DNA damage and prevent premature ageing and wrinkles.

One of my most surprising product discoveries in the Lamelle range has been the Lamelle Skin Essence Clear. Designed to help pump the breaks on breakouts and congestion, this gentle liquid is ideal if you’re struggling with large pores and pimples. It was created to use after your cleanser and before your moisturiser, and features a powerful blend of probiotic lysates that mimic your skin’s microbiome and active ingredients specifically chosen for their ability to benefit irritated problematic skin. I’ve been loving this product, and I’m convinced it’s the reason my complexion has improved and my skin has stayed clear for weeks following the facial.

The absolute hero of all the products I’ve been using has been the Lamelle Correctives HA+ Serum. Lamelle calls it the “most advanced hydrating serum we’ve seen” and for good reason. This stuff is powerful and worth every penny. After using this serum religiously I’ve noticed a remarkable improvement in my skin’s hydration levels. It’s made with four different types of hyaluronic acid, each with a unique hydrating effect on your skin, as well as special HAFi fragments that stimulate your skin’s own hyaluronic acid production, to help protect ageing skin against the aggressive breakdown of hyaluronic acid in the skin.

Of course, no skincare routine is complete without a good sunscreen, so I’ve been using the Lamelle Helase 50. A sunscreen with oomph, this SPF50 powerhouse is also packed with anti-inflammatory ingredients and Photolyase enzymes that correct recent indirect and direct DNA damage. The cream can feel a little thick and ‘pasty’ at first, but after a few seconds on the skin, it absorbs and feels weightless, almost like a primer.

Lamelle to the rescue

While I was already a big Lamelle fan before embarking on this recent Lamelle facial and skincare overhaul journey, the last month and a bit has reignited my love of the brand and reminded me just how incredible the products in the range are. If you’re at your wits end with your skin, then I highly recommend trying a Lamelle facial and switching to Lamelle skincare products for a month to see the difference it can make. Plus, to the brand’s credit, the products across all the Lamelle ranges are very competitively priced when compared to other salon-quality skincare ranges.
