Production Has Started on The Downton Abbey Movie!
Hold onto your bonnets ladies because we’ve just heard that the long-awaited Downton Abbey movie is indeed happening. The original main cast from the hit series are returning, and shooting starts in September!
Set early in the 1900s at the turn of the 20th century, the well-acclaimed historical TV show follows the Crawley family in their Edwardian country house, along with the lives of the servants who work in the home. The series won 3 Golden Globes, 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, and a ton of other awards, making it the most nominated non-US TV show in Emmy history. With an incredible cast including Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville, the show was bound to be a hit.
Directed by Brian Percival (well-known author of The Book Thief) and written by the series’ Academy-Award winning creator, Julian Fellowes, the film promises to deliver everything fans are hoping for on the big screen. Since the Downton Abbey series ended, we’ve all been eagerly anticipating more about the next chapter in the Crawley family’s lives and it’s finally happening!
With full production only set to begin later this season, don’t get too excited to see Downton on the silver screen anytime soon… It’s predicted that Carnival Films, Focus Features and Universal Pictures International will release it in the latter half of 2019. At least we have something to look forward to!
