Whether you’re sweating it out in Joburg or feeling like it’s 40 degrees in the shade in Cape Town there’s a spot on our list for you to enjoy. Here are our picks for the top 10 ‘public’ swimming pools in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

1. The Deck Rooftop & Pool Bar – Green Point, Cape Town

This inner-city rooftop retreat is just the place to meet, drink, swim, and relax in Cape Town. Pop in and enjoy a drink at the bar or soak up the sun while lazing on a comfy lounger. Thirsty customers looking for a spot to whet their whistle can pop in anytime provided you order drinks. Just make sure you check their Facebook page to ensure they aren’t hosting a special event (which may have a cover charge) or a private party.

Hours: The pool is open to the public from 10:00 till 19:00 Monday – Friday.

2. The Zenith Sky Bar and pool deck – Green Point, Cape Town

3. Shimmy Beach Club – V&A Waterfront, Cape Town

If you’re in the mood to see and be seen then Shimmy Beach Club’s private beach is just the place to be. This chic beach club houses a private beach area, two pools and incredible views of the harbour. Book your spot on one of the sun loungers or private cabanas and watch helicopter, boats and yachts go past while you enjoy a meal on the beach along with delicious cocktails and beers.

6. Pines Resort – Krugersdorp, Johannesburg

This water park offers a giant swimming pool and water slides for both adults and kids as well as braai facilities, picnic spots and more. Head through with your picnic, towels and umbrella and the spend the day in the water having a blast. The park is quite large and there is loads of grass for kids to play on and space available for everyone to enjoy a comfortable day out. The resort is open from the beginning of September to the end of March.

For a cool inner-city dip check out Maboneng’s latest hotspot, Poolside. Visiting this spot is like having a permanent spot to have a pool party with your mates – they’ve got great music, friendly staff, good food, delicious drinks and, of course, a pool! Chill out on one of the pool loungers and soak up the sun or take a seat poolside and dip your feet in the pool while you sip on a cold one.
