Review: French Perfumery, Berdoues Launches in SA with Travel-Inspired Range
Great news for fragrance lovers, a new French perfume brand has landed in South Africa, and it’s certain to reignite your passion for travel. For 118 years, Maison Berdoues has been creating exquisite fragrances, perfecting the art of French ‘Haute parfumerie’, and now the brand has finally arrived in South Africa. Inspired by the smells, flavours, and sights of the world, French perfumery, Berdoues’ Collection Grands Crus range speaks to your inner wanderlust with a fragrance dedicated to some of the most popular travel destinations across the globe.
With these unique scents, your senses can travel the world without having to hop on a plane. From the fresh botanical scents of the Amazonian forest in Brazil to the sweetness of cherry blossoms in Japan; from the smells of warm tobacco in Cuba to the spicy flavours of the Maasai Mara, each of the 12 fragrance in this range have been created to transport the wearer to that destination.
I got the opportunity to spend a morning exploring the entire Collection Grands Crus range and am so impressed with these fragrances. With so many styles of scents in the range, I can honestly say this collection includes something for everyone. Whether you love pretty floral scents, light and fresh fragrances, or woody and spicy notes. While most of the fragrances in the range are more feminine, some of the warmer scents are also unisex, so you can share them with your significant other if you’re in a giving mood. Right now, with the summer heat in full swing, the lighter fragrances in the range definitely spoke to me more, but in winter I will definitely be leaning more towards the warmer, woodier scents.
Some of my favourite summer finds from the range include Somei Yoshino, Azur Riviera, and Selva Do Brazil. A delicate perfume inspired by cherry blossoms in Japan, Somei Yoshino offers a blend of Shiso from Japan, Jasmine Sambac from India and Patchouli from Indonesia to create a balanced floral scent perfect for warm summer days. With a strong marine personality reminiscent of the sights and smells of the French Riviera, Azur Riviera is another winner for summer offering a fresh, floral bouquet made up of Jasmine from Egypt and Orange Blossom from Tunisia brings.
Last but not least, Selva Do Brazil is a summer revelation for those days when you’re feeling energised and ready to take on the world. Those who love light, fresh fragrances will adore the simplicity of this botanical perfume. Petitgrain from Paraguay, tonka bean from Brazil and Gaiac wood from Argentina come together to create a fragrance that is both alive and racy.
