Sticking to a healthy lifestyle can be tough – especially when you have the mother of all bad days and all you want to do is veg out in front of the TV with a bag of chips. But that doesn’t mean that you should give up. While you might think that falling off the wagon is going to make you feel better on a bad day the truth is, you’ll feel like a total badass if you hit the gym instead. But don’t just take our word for it, we spoke to health blogger, fitness enthusiast, nutrition coach, and wholefoods producer, Cara-Lisa Sham from Caralishious to find out her top 5 tips for staying fit and healthy when you’re oh-so-close to throwing in the towel.

“I understand the dangers of deprivation, fad- dieting and over-exercising because I’ve been there,” Says Cara. She doesn’t believe in dieting and is on a mission to show her clients and readers a more holistic way of approaching health and fitness. “I know first-hand that dieting just doesn’t work,” explains Cara. “When we embark on extreme diets, or cut out complete food groups, we experience a perceived deprivation, which in turn, causes us to become preoccupied with food and inevitably leads to an unhealthy cycle of deprivation, binge eating and guilt.” And, if you’re still not sure if this whole “healthy lifestyle” thing is for you, the great news is that Cara encourages her clients to treat themselves. “If I tell you that you are never allowed to have your favourite cake again – you ARE going to want it even MORE than you ever did before,” explains Cara. “This is exactly why we should be able to treat ourselves, and enjoy the occasional indulgence – this is good for the soul and promotes a healthy balance in the long term.”

2. Listen to your body

And, I mean really listen! Your body is so smart and is in communication with you all the time – so tune in.

3. Don’t forget your me time!

Take some time out for yourself each day to reflect, give thanks and visualise all that you want in your life.
