Col’Cacchio Launches New Summer Menu Along with 3 New Celebrity Chef Pizzas [Review]
After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
For foodies the best thing about a season change is new seasonal menus and now that summer is well and truly here it’s time for all our favourite eateries to launch their summer menus. One new summr menu to get excited about is everyone’s favourite pizza joint, Col’Cacchio pizzeria. With the addition of a few new salads, a unique Mac & Cheese spinoff for the kids, and three yummy and simply inspired new pizzas from the minds of three of South Africa’s most loved celebrity chefs, the tantalizing new menu from Col’Cacchio pizzeria offers a little something for everyone to enjoy.
I got the chance to try some of the new offerings and can report that there’s loads to be excited about – especially the celebrity chef pizzas! The annual Col’Cacchio celebrity chef series not only adds a delicious limited edition edge to the Col’Cacchio’s menu but is also a great way to show your support for a good cause. Since 2009 the Celebrity Chef Series has raised over R1.8 million for charitable causes through the R5 donation from the sale of each celebrity chef pizza. Funds raised through the 2016/17 campaign will be donated to the Children’s Hospital Trust, fundraiser for the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, which treats children from around the country as well as kids from all over Africa.
This year’s range offers three simply delightful pizzas to try including the Don Salsa from Zola Nene (a tomato base, pulled BBQ chicken pizza drenched in mozzarella, smoked mozzarella with corn and a fresh avocado salsa topped with TABASCO® Chipotle Sauce), The Private Chef from Neill Anthony (a crème fraîche & spinach base, mozzarella with a marinated Asian chicken topped with a truffle infused Asian mayonnaise, crispy leeks, basil and Italian parmesan shavings), and The Phat Cat from Claire Allen (an authentic play on lasagna; beef bolognaise with a creamy béchamel sauce topped with mozzarella). If I had to pick favourites it would be a tough choice between The Phat Cat (because lasagna on a pizza is genius!) and the Don Salsa (because any pizza with a little Mexican flair is alright in my books!). If you’re after something oh-so-indulgent then go for The Phat Cat, it won’t disappoint and is essentially the best of comfort food on one plate. The celebrity chef range will be available at all stores across South Africa from November 2016 to April 2017 at R105 each, so get out there and try them before it’s too late.
If none of those pizzas catch your fancy then you can also try the new Vegan Margherita pizza (tomato base, herbs, and dairy-free cheese). If you love cheese but can’t or don’t eat dairy, then this is for you! A tasty alternative to cheese that is free from animal ingredients, perfect for vegetarians and vegans or those who are lactose intolerant. Customers will also be able to build their own pizzas using the Vegan Margherita as a base or request vegan cheese on existing pizzas at an additional cost. As for the salads, for a fresh start to your meal try ordering one of the new salads. The additions include the Asiatico (lettuce, broccoli, spiralized carrots, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, Italian parmesan, cucumber, TABASCO® Green Jalapeño Pepper Sauce and ponzu dressing), and the La Mela (spinach, lettuce, shaved fennel, shaved apple, cranberries, hazelnuts, TABASCO® Green Jalapeño Pepper Sauce and truffle dressing). I personally loved the La Mela salad and found it to be delightfully refreshing with a bit of a spicy kick.
There’s also a delicious new pasta on the menu – the Affumicato (spicy pulled ribs in a creamy TABASCO® Chipotle Sauce, topped with julienned carrots, coriander) is a meat lover’s dream and is another must-try if you like a little bit of a spicy kick in your pasta. Speaking of pasta, the new kiddie’s Cheesy Spag Spiders dish will delight little tummies and you might even be tempted to steal a bite or two. With chicken cheese sausage threaded with spaghetti served with Pomodoro sauce, cheesy béchamel sauce, bread crumbs, and with Italian parmesan, this fun new dish is a taste sensation. And, if you’re after something sweet then try the Deconstructed Lemon Meringue (meringue, lemon curd, biscuit crumb) or the Profiteroles (pastry balls with a whipped cream center).
The new summer menu is available from now until April 2017 so make sure head through to try it soon. For more info on the new menu visit the Col’Cacchio website here.
