City life can be tough, even in sleepy Cape Town, which is why it’s so important to take a beat every now and then to unwind and de-stress. Nothing helps me relax quite like a spa day but I don’t always have the time drive all the way out to a winelands spa for a pamper session. Luckily, I’ve found the perfect spot to get my day spa fix right here in the inner-city. Located on the 19th floor of the Westin Cape Town, Heavenly Spa by Westin offers everything you need for a day of relaxation or a quick spa retreat. With unbeatable views, luxury facilities, and a wide variety of treatments, this spa on the foreshore is every over-worked Capetonian’s dream come true.

This urban wellness retreat proves that even a bustling city hotel can be home to a serene spa escape. In addition to enjoying luxury treatments in the spacious treatment rooms, you can spend ages at this incredible spa doing a whole lot of nothing. Whether it’s taking in the incredible views from the heated infinity pool, soaking in the jacuzzi, taking a beat in the sauna, sweating it all out in the steam room, or kicking back with a good book and a cup of a tea in the relaxation lounge, there are loads of ways to unwind outside the treatment rooms. There’s no doubt, the facilities at Heavenly Spa by Westin are some of the best in Cape Town and when you book a treatment at this delightful spa in the clouds you really do get so much more bang for your buck if you stay a while and indulge in the facilities.

Suspended high above the bustling Cape Town city centre, with sweeping views of the harbour and V&A Waterfront below, the sparkling lap pool at Heavenly Spa is one of the most impressive spa pools in Cape Town. Swim a few laps in the pool or simply float and relax for a while before retiring to the sun loungers overlooking the pool and awe-inspiring view. If it’s a real stress-relieving soak you want, then you can’t go wrong with the equally impressive jacuzzi. Tucked away in a private corner of the pool area, flanked by floor-to-ceiling glass windows that let you take in every inch of the magnificent view, this little slice of heaven is my favourite spot at the spa.

But the jaw-dropping moments don’t stop there. Heavenly Spa by Westin is also hometo the most impressive sauna in Cape Town. Forget staring at the wood panelled sauna wall or your fellow sauna mates when sweating out those toxins, at this spa guests can enjoy panoramic views of the city and harbour as they sweat thanks to the double volume, floor-to-ceiling windows that make up the exterior sauna wall. Usually a spa sauna isn’t worth a mention in a review, but you’ve never seen a sauna quite like this one and you’ll want to visit Heavenly Spa time and time again just to spend a few minutes contemplating life, love, and everything else in this unique hot box.

As for the treatments, Heavenly Spa offers some of the best treatments and therapists in the business. With everything from massages and body treatments, to facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and signature spa experiences on the treatment menu, there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy at this unique pamper haven. For my most recent visit I was treated to the 60-minute Heavenly Spa Signature Massage (R820).

This Swedish-style massage is the ultimate in relaxation and stress relieve and is centred around a three stone ritual. The treatment starts with the client selecting one of three stones to set an intent for the experience. I selected the ‘love’ stone and was encouraged to think about that intent and what it meant to me throughout the treatment, which really helped centre my thoughts during the massage.

For the massage the therapist uses a blend of Heavenly Spa signature oils to create a personalised treatment based on your goals for the treatment. I was hoping to relieve muscle tension, reduce stress, and relax during my treatment so the oils used for my massage were mixed accordingly. I felt like a new person after this sensational treatment and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to reverse the affects of city life on the body.

Heavenly Spa has become one of my favourite places to unwind in Cape Town. It’s one of the few places I can truly switch off in the city and is my go-to spot when I feel like I need to restore balance to my mind and body. And the best news? You can escape to this tranquil spot even if you don’t book a treatment. Guests can enjoy access to the spa facilities for R250 per day, which is a steal if you ask me!
