Luxury is the Order of the Day at Long Beach, Mauritius [Review]

Long beach Mauritius

I’ve always been a ‘go big or go home’ kind of person so when planning my first trip to the beautiful beach paradise of Mauritius there was no question that I wanted to experience it all – the beaches, the food, the luxury, the water sports and even the nightlife! Luckily for me, we chose a resort that offers everything I wanted to experience and more, all on the most beautiful beach-front property I have ever seen. If you’re looking to upgrade, upgrade, upgrade then the relatively new Long Beach Mauritius the perfect choice for a modern beach getaway.

Nestled on the edge of one of the island’s longest, widest and most beautiful natural beaches, Long Beach is the modern side of Mauritius. The newly built 5-star resort is contemporary, chic and sophisticated and really does put some of its longer standing neighbours to shame. The modern architecture, high ceilings, pastel colours, luxurious gardens and more traditional Mauritian building materials come together perfectly to create a little slice of heaven on the island’s East Coast.

Long Beach Resort

The resort is modeled on the Italian style of life with a lively central Square, surrounded by restaurants, bars and boutiques being the real heart of the hotel. Here you will find three restaurants (with another 2 on the beach below) offering a range of different types of cuisine for you to enjoy during your stay as well as shopping boutiques and a cocktail bar. After spending just one day at the resort it was quite clear that everything has been thought of to ensure that guests are as comfortable as possible during their stay  – whether you are a couple, with family or in a group each guest can make the most of the communal spaces that the hotel offers. We spent most of our evenings enjoying dinner on the Square and then taking in the entertainment at the cocktail bar. Here you can listen to live bands perform, catch a dance performance or dance the night away to the tunes supplied by the in-house DJ all while enjoying a cocktail, glass of wine and a hubbly.

Long beach Food

There’s so much to keep you entertained at this place it’s crazy. Long Beach’s 5 restaurants allows guests to choose between Italian, French, Asian, Seafood and Mauritian flavours on any night of the week – gone are the days of having to eat the same hotel food day-in and day-out! There’s also an impressive white sandy beach just a stone’s throw away, 3 big pools, a water sports centre, floodlit tennis courts, yoga and aqua-gym classes, golf, guided mountain bike excursions, a kid’s entertainment centre, an air-conditioned fitness centre and a climbing wall for guests to take advantage of. In fact anyone who manages to be bored at Long Beach deserves a special award because it’s nearly impossible to be bored at the resort. I also loved that there are loads of all-inclusive things to do that won’t cost you an extra penny. These include kayaking, snorkeling, glass-bottomed boat tours, paddle boats and fun boats. We hopped on a boat with some of the other guests and enjoyed a glass-bottom boat experience as well as a snorkeling trip and it didn’t cost us a cent!

Long Beach Pools

If fussing about in the water all day every day doesn’t float your boat then there’s also lots of relaxing to be done at Long Beach. Make the most of the super comfy day beds in and around the pool or the suspended beds on the beach and spend the day reading or taking in the view. You can also book a treatment at the absolutely stunning  Sea Spa where you can have a massage overlooking the beautiful resort. The boyfriend and I enjoyed a relaxing couples massage here and didn’t want to leave after the hour was up! The spa offers overs oversized massage beds in twelve treatment rooms, an outdoor pavilion, a Hammam, a relaxation zone as well as a beauty salon offering hairdressing, manicures and pedicures.

Long Beach’s rooms are also quite special as all the rooms have spectacular views over the crystal-clear waters of the lagoon, the coral reef and the Indian Ocean beyond. We watched the sunset from our balcony, which was equipped with a comfy couch every evening before heading down for dinner and it was too divine for words. Each room in the new 5-star hotel is also equipped with a minibar, tea and coffee making facilities as well as a TV with a shower, bath and a separate WC.

Bookings for a Long Beach getaway can be made through World Leisure Holidays and start from R16 440 for 5 nights (including taxes, return flights to Mauritius ex Johannesburg, airport transfers, 5 night’s accommodation, breakfast and dinner daily, and up to 2 children under 12 years free of charge).
