Puma x HYROX Gear Review: We Put the Women’s Performance Apparel to the Test
Puma has unveiled the latest Puma x HYROX collection. Engineered for the ultimate combination of comfort and race performance, the brand says this new collection caters to the dynamic range of movements during what is said to be one of the most well-rounded tests of fitness on earth.
As the official global HYROX partner, Puma developed a full range of apparel purpose-made for the adrenaline-fueled event that combines functional fitness and endurance. Each HYROX race sees participants run 1km, followed by 1 functional workout station, repeated eight times. Participants can compete solo in HYROX Open/Pro, share the load with a partner in HYROX Doubles/Doubles Pro, or grab three friends and take on the HYROX relay.
Puma’s latest HYROX collection features gear constructed from Puma’s innovative Cloudspun technology featuring dryCell moisture-wicking properties with a 4-way stretch. Built for comfort, Cloudspun helps ensure competitors stay focused whether they’re in training or competing on race day.
Puma’s Cloudspun technology is one of my all-time favourite innovations from the brand. I own a few pieces of Cloudspun gear and it’s always the first thing I reach for when I know I’m going out for a gruelling workout. The custom-milled performance poly/spandex blend delivers a cotton-like softness, while still meeting high-performance standards for athletes.
Calling the Cloudspun fabric soft is an understatement; the super soft material feels like a comforting hug against the skin, and you’re guaranteed to avoid hotspots and chaffing with anything made from this incredible fabric. Puma’s proprietary brushing process enhances the fabric’s softness, making it a standout choice for HYROX. It’s also ultra-lightweight and truly lives up to its cloud-inspired name.
The collection includes 8 pieces of apparel designed for female athletes including shorts, tights, training tops and sweaters. I’ve been putting the Puma x HYROX Women Cloudspun Tee (R1,099) and Puma x HYROX Women Cloudspun High Waist 7/8 Length Tight (R1,399) to the test in my workouts. I’ve been incredibly impressed with the range so far.
The regular fit Cloudspun Tee has a generous cut and feels butter-soft against the skin. It’s perfect for resistance training days when you want to throw on a comfortable t-shirt over your tights and sports bra on your way to the gym. Wear it for your warm-up and peel it off when you’re ready to get serious. It has longer sleeves for extra comfort and a shorter cropped length to give full range of motion for high-intensity training.
Nothing feels better than slipping this T-shirt back on after a gruelling workout when you just need a gentle embrace to get you through your cool down. The T-shirt is comfort-personified and is also a brilliant addition to the collection for ladies who prefer not to wear tight-fitting gear. I would buy this T-shirt in every colour if I could. Sadly it only comes in white, let’s hope future collections give us a black or signature Deviate Nitro burnt orange option too.
As for the Cloudspun High Waist 7/8 Length Tight, this is a real hero piece in the collection. The most comfortable gym tights you’ll ever own, these premium tights are a stellar option for running and functional training workouts as well as on race day. Cloudspun’s unique technology ensures these tights move with the body, giving you a near-custom fit for unrestricted movement.
Burpees, running, lunges, it all feels like a breeze in these thanks to the 4-way stretch. Add in 2 drop-in side pockets to keep your essentials secure for intense training, and you’ve got the perfect pair of tights for race day.
The tights are the perfect high-rise fit for a flattering look and ideal coverage to keep you comfortable as you train. These are so soft and comfortable you’ll be dreaming of the next time you get to wear them.
