Cape Town Yogis, it’s time to roll out your mats and start practising your chaturanga because a massive International Day of Yoga celebration is coming to the Mother City this June! After a successful event in 2018, Joëlle Sleebos and the Dharma Project, will once again be hosting the International Day of Yoga event in Cape Town. The fourth of its kind, this year’s event will take place on Saturday 22 June 2019 at an exciting new venue in Gardens. The event will unite yogis to celebrate the gift of yoga while raising funds for local charity, Earthchild Project.

This time around, entry for the event is free but yogis will still need to secure a ticket online to get through the door. Instead of a fixed ticket price, this year yoga lovers will be asked to donate to Earthchild Project with donations starting from R50 up to R1,000 per ticket. The value of an entry ticket is estimated at R450 per person and the event will offer a wide range of exciting activities for yogis to enjoy. You can also buy a “ticket for a friend”, these tickets will be given to people that do not have the means to buy a ticket.

Participants can choose from either a morning session that will run from 08:30 to 13:30; or an afternoon session that will run from 14:00 to 18:30. Both sessions will have a mega yoga class, yoga workshops, a yoga market and a raffle with great prizes to be won. Prizes range from prizes from free yoga classes and yoga props to spots at a fabulous yoga retreat. That’s not all, the first 150 people to arrive at each session will also receive a complimentary goodie bag filled with treats from the event sponsors.

Earthchild Project understands the importance of yoga and, more importantly, the importance of yoga for children. The NGO works with underprivileged schools and teaches yoga and life skills to children. It is presently working with over 3,500 children in 8 schools in Khayelitsha and Lavender Hill. For just R250 one child is provided with weekly yoga classes for one year!

The event will take place at 4 Hope Street, Gardens, Cape Town. Please remember to bring your own yoga mat or beach towel. Limited mats will be available to rent.
