The Galileo Open Air Cinema 2016 Movie Line-up Announced!

Cape Town’s most exciting summer experience, The Galileo Open Air Cinema is back and this year they’re promising even more exciting movie venues and fantastic titles to keep you coming back for more. This time around the mobile cinema will be screening select classic movies from 31 October 2016 until the end of April 2017 and Mother City movie-goers will be able to attend star-lit screenings at 22 spectacular venues around town and the surrounding winelands.

The Galileo 2017/2017 season will see movie-goers heading to venues like Hillcrest Quarry on Tuesdays, Kirstenbosch Gardens on Wednesdays, the V&A Waterfront on Thursdays, the Cape Winelands on Saturdays, and Kelvin Grove on Sundays. In addition to these venues screenings will also be held at various rotating venues on Fridays including The Castle of Good Hope, Central Park Century City, Fedisa Rooftop, Noordhoek Common, and Meerendal Wine Estate. Some movies to look out for on this year’s line-up include The Great Gatsby, The Fault In Our Stars, The Notebook, Mamma Mia!, (500) Days Of Summer, 10 Things I Hate About You, When Harry Met Sally, Ferris Bueller’s Day, Gone Girl and so much more.

This year’s events will also include new food vendors and entertainment! Friday night screenings will feature live bands and for those with kids in tow, they’ve added six new Sunday family-friendly screenings during the school holidays screening movies Frozen, The Jungle Book, and Toy Story. Sunday screenings will start earlier at 16:00 and will be fun for the whole family! When not enthralled by the big screen, kids will be entertained with jumping castles, face-painting, colouring stations and much more so there’s no need to call in a babysitter for the night.

Movie tickets can be purchased online for via Webtickets. Prices are as follows: R79 for Standard Ticket entry, R10 for a blanket and R20 for a backrest. A limited amount of tickets will also be available at the door on the night at R90 each. Another great addition to this year’s season is the ability for regular movie buffs to save bucks with seasonal tickets. Guests can choose to buy a bulk pack of 7 ‘Warm & Comfy Tickets’ at the price of 6 tickets for R600 (this includes a blanket and backrest with your ticket) or 12 ‘Standard Tickets’ at the price of 10 tickets for R790 (this includes entry only).
