Under Armour TriBase Reign 6 Review: A Cross-Training Shoe Built for Lifting
After years of working as an Editor and writer for…
The Under Armour TriBase training shoe has created quite a name for itself in the fitness community. Now, Under Armour is cranking things up with the launch of the next-generation TriBase, a shoe that promises to set a new standard in cross-training footwear.
Under Armour says the unisex TriBase Reign 6 is designed to be an all-in-one powerhouse. This latest addition to the Reign series combines stability, durability, and flexibility to elevate your fitness experience and stands out as the perfect companion for the modern fitness enthusiast.

As fitness enthusiasts continue to move beyond the treadmill and ‘death by cardio’ they’re staying steadfast in embracing hybrid training, High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), as well as strength and endurance training. The TriBase Reign 6 aligns with this generation of fitness culture, blending style and functionality for a generation that values performance and versatility beyond traditional workouts.
Tailored to complement versatility, Under Armour points out that the training shoe excels in hybrid training models, labelling the TriBase Reign 6 as a fitness companion, offering the support and flexibility necessary for a well-rounded and efficient workout journey.

Whether you’re tackling strength training, flexibility training, or HIIT, the Reign 6 boasts unbeatable ground control with its triangular plate providing three points of contact, ensuring rock-solid stability with every rep, set, and cardio burst.
The 2mm drop-in midsole combines firmer heel material with softer forefoot cushioning, ensuring long-lasting power and impact absorption during intense workouts. The UA WARP upper, with TPU mesh, provides ultimate support and breathability, while the external heel clip and internal heel counter add extra stability and support.
Hands-on with the Under Armour TriBase Reign 6
After a few weeks of wearing this training shoe in the gym, it’s clear that Under Armour has hit a home run with the Reign 6. The shoe offers plenty of improvements from its predecessors and is well worth the investment if you’re looking to upgrade.

I love lifting in the Reign 6. I found that the minimal outsole offers excellent ground feel, for better balance, stability and power generation and it’s an absolute dream underfoot if you like to squat heavy. The shoe’s wide toe box allows for full toe splay so you can really push into the ground to steady yourself. Plus, the TriBase system keeps feet glued to the floor and provides ultimate stability. This shoe allows me to power through sets of heavy leg exercises and its 2mm heel drop is ideal for my body mechanics when performing things like squats, lunges, and deadlifts.
The shoe’s 2mm heel-to-toe drop puts it on the lower end of drops for modern training shoes. Plus, Under Armour has designed the shoe to enable you to remove the drop-in midsole for a zero-drop shoe.

Due to its minimal cushioning, the Reign 6 is not my go-to for intensive cardio days, but it’s the only shoe I want to reach for on a strength training day when I know I want my deadlifts and squats to be on point. If you don’t want a lot of cushioning in a training shoe and prefer a more natural feel, then few will beat the feeling of the Reign 6.
Those going from a higher drop shoe (like the 6mm drop Reebok Nano), might have a slight adjustment period when you first start wearing the Reign 6, but before long you’ll wonder why you ever trained in anything else. There’s something incredibly intuitive about the way your body moves in the Reign 6 and it may well be the best training shoe that Under Armour has ever made.
Why the UA TriBase Reign 6?
With three points of ground contact and a strategically secure upper, this training shoe is built to support your best form as you lift, move, and conquer your most explosive workouts. The Reign 6 is tailored for strength training, athletic workouts, cross-training, HIIT, CrossFit, sprints, and plyometrics.

If you’re an Under Armour fan and want a shoe for lifting, F45, or CrossFit, then you’ll love how the Reign 6 performs in the gym. This shoe will be a win for anyone who likes a flatter-feeling shoe.
The Under Armour TriBase Reign 6 is now available in-store and online at a price of R2,899.
