Review: 5 Lipsticks, Balms & Glosses You Have to Try this Summer

If there’s one thing you need to know about it me it’s that I am OBSESSED with lip balms and glosses. Rummage through my handbag (if you dare) and you will find a range of different glosses and balms, with each one holding a special place in my heart. My obsession runs so deep that I’m on a never-ending quest to find the very best lip products in all the land. After years of ‘lip service’, I’ve managed to narrow down my search to bring you this list of my top 5 favourite lip products that I never go without. Here are 5 lipsticks, balms and glosses you simply HAVE to try!

Dr. Hauschka Labimint Soothing Lip Care

Dr Hauschka Labimint Soothing Lip Care

This stuff is like liquid gold for lips. It works like a charm when treating dry and chapped lips and is the only thing I use when I get cold sores (the bane of my existence). I have never used a lip balm that moisturises my lips as quickly as this stuff and while it might be R265 a tube it’s so worth it! It also lasts forever as a small pea-sized amount is enough to cover your lips.

Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Lip Balm

Revlon ColorBurst Lacquer Lip Balm

I’ve first fell in love with these Revlon lacquer lip balms 2 years ago and our relationship has only grown from strength-to-strength. The high-shine, shimmering lip lacquer is a moisturising balm and a ‘lipstick’ because it also adds a lick of colour to your lips when you use it. The balms come in a range of different colours to suit any skin type and they even have matte versions of the much-loved balm now. Infused with a triple butter complex of Shea, coconut and mango, your lips stay nourished for hours after using it. At R180 per stick, it’s a great investment for any handbag.

These beautiful balms are available from Dis-Chem and Clicks pharmacies and online here.

3. Bioderma Atoderm Restorative Lip Balm

Bioderma Atoderm Lip balm

The Atoderm Restorative Lip Balm has proved to be a real winner me when I can’t shake that dry lips feeling. The lip balm is a daily moisturising treatment that soothes, nourishes and repairs damaged lips while also shielding lips from external stress. The balm has a rich texture and is my go-to during the cold weather months when I need to protect my lips during chilly winter morning walks. This balm lasts ages and at R130 for a 15ml tube it’s a steal!

The gold standard of liquid lipsticks, these beauties from Elizabeth Arden are one of my all-time favourite lipsticks to use. It’s the first lipstick I reach for when I’m heading out there for a night out on the town. The creamy, high impact lip colour offers the coverage and intensity of a lipstick with the shine of a gloss which means your lips will stay soft and moisturised for ages after applying. The gloss-lippy hybrid from Elizabeth Arden is also long-lasting and doesn’t bleed or feather (my worst nightmare!) so you can feel confident your look is staying put. At R295 a lipstick, they’re well worth the splurge.

Find it at Woolworths stores and online here.

5. Revolution Makeup Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit

Revolution Makeup Retro Luxe Matte Lip Kit

The hype around the Revolution makeup is real. In terms of formulation and price point, no one can touch Revolution’s Matte Lip Kits at the moment. Each kit contains a liquid lipstick with a doe-foot applicator and a matching lip pencil, giving you the tools you need to create the perfect lip. I love it because it’s lightweight and goes on like a dream, without being sticky or drying out. The longevity of the colours is also fantastic and the pigment on point.

Find it at Clicks stores.
