The red wine and biltong tasting is definitely a must-try experience for those looking for a fancy-pants take on a great combination.

Situated on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain, Alto has gained a reputation as one of SA’s most respected red wine estates with just five exclusive varieties being grown on the estate. These wines are now featured in Alto’s brand new Wine & Biltong Tasting option — one more reason to visit the esteemed estate! Set against a serene backdrop of the lush vine-covered valley this tasting is a great addition to the long list of wine tasting options in the Stellenbosch valley.

 Each pairing highlights the versatility of the wine with the first option, Alto Rouge, being complemented with a barbecue-flavoured biltong. Next, Alto Shiraz is paired with a smoky biltong with the delicate spices balanced by a fruitiness that perfectly matches the meat. The estate’s Alto Cabernet Sauvignon pairs delightful with a salty, naturally-cured biltong with a hint of fat, which enhances the red plum fruit sweetness in the wine.

The fourth option exudes umami flavours in the well-aged Alto M.P.H.S. which is well-matched with Alto red wine biltong with Parmesan and white truffle.Finaly, end off on a sweet note as you sample the Alto Old Fine Vintage with soft, silky Gorgonzola cheese and red wine biscotti.
