We love it when local chefs release their own cookbooks – not only does it allow us to get a taste of their delicious brand of South African cooking in our own homes but it also gives us a chance to get inside their minds and learn a little more about what it takes to become a top chef in South Africa. If you’re in need of another great South African recipe book to swoon over then you’ll be delighted to heard that local celebrity chef, co-presenter of My Kitchen Rules, and co-owner of Marble restaurant in Johannesburg, David Higgs, is about to release his first ever cookbook, Mile 8!

Inspired by one of Higgs’ childhood stories where his food journey began, Mile 8 is sure to delight both your palate and your mind. Namibia’s coast is lined with mile markers running north through the country for 108 miles. Mile 8 is where Higgs caught his first fish and where he fell in love with the art of food. The book is a great read for those with a sense of adventure and follows Higgs’ story from the coastal town of Walvis Bay, through the kitchens of Cape Town in the 90s, to the winelands and ending at Marble restaurant in Johannesburg.

A culinary adventure, the book boasts over 90 dishes and 150 recipes –  an amalgamation of Southern African flavours. You’ll find things like Impala Tartare, Snoek & Apricot and Malva Pudding, along with a bunch of beautiful illustrations and photographs of Higgs’ journey.
