Cathay Pacific is making big plans for craft beer lovers with the launch of Betsy Beer, the first beer designed to be enjoyed while flying. The exciting new addition to the Cathay Pacific in-flight bar celebrates the eclectic flavours of the Orient with a hat tip to England’s long and proud tradition of turning hops and barley into heaven in a pint. But, this isn’t just any craft beer. Because our senses are dulled by up to 30% during a flight, Cathay Pacific wanted to brew a beer that was perfectly suited to be enjoyed at high altitudes and the result is the oh-so-unique Betsy Beer.

Taking its name from Cathay Pacific’s first aircraft, Betsy, the new beer is a uniquely crafted brew containing Dragon Fruit and New Territories honey from Hong Kong, along with Fuggle Hops grown in Kent and used in English breweries for centuries. Unlike it’s highly-hopped counterparts, Betsy is a wheat-based beer with a higher carbonation level than ordinary brews, heightening the sense of taste and delivering a punch of flavour with less bitterness and more aroma.

Between 1 March and 30 April 2017, the new brew will be available to enjoyed onboard flights between Hong Kong and destinations in the United Kingdom – such as Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester.
