Reviewed by Me

These are some of my favourite products from our beauty desk this month – they’ve all been personally reviewed by me and get the WomenStuff stamp of approval!

1. Lipidol Overnight Face Oil

If you’re looking for a super affordable way to start your anti-aging journey then I’d highly recommend you try Lipidol’s Overnight Face Oil. When it comes to beating the signs of ageing hydration is key and this nifty little product works together with the skin’s natural oils to improve skin moisture and protect it from daily exposure to the elements. With ingredients like rosehip oil, pomegranate seed oil, and retinyl palmitate (a mild form of retinol) thrown into the mix, this oil will act as an anti-inflammatory and help slow down the signs of ageing. If your skin is too sensitive to tolerate more hard-core retinol in products like Environ then this is the ideal product for you. I have super sensitive skin and I’m loving this product to the moon and back at the moment – I love that it treats my skin while I’m sleeping (yay for working smart not hard) and makes my face feel like a million bucks when I wake up in the morning. To use simply cleanse your face as normal and then massage a few drops of Lipidol Overnight Face Oil onto clean, dry skin before going to bed. *Bonus* the oil is also great for calming the mind and helping you sleep!

Lipidol Overnight Face Oil (50ml) is available from Clicks stores at R89.95.

2. Moroccanoil Thickening Lotion

I’ve recently had my mind blown – all my life I’ve been told I have thick hair. But as it turns out, I just have a lot of it and in reality, I have dense, fine hair (what?). Finally a reason for why I struggle to get volume at my roots! This recent discovery and the launch of the new Moroccanoil Thickening Lotion has just about changed my damn life. If you’ve got fine hair, like me, then this product will make home styling an absolute dream. It is formulated to instantly expand the hair shaft and strengthen each strand without causing frizz or flyaways and it leaves my hair looking and feeling fuller and more voluminous, even at the roots! While most volumizing products provide vertical lift for all-over height, this product expands the hair shaft for an overall fuller, plumper style. But it doesn’t stop there, the product is also super moisturising (thanks to the vitamin-rich organ oil in the product) and leaves your hair feeling ultra soft and oh-so- touchable after styling. Yes, that’s right ladies, there’s no stickiness with this product! To use apply a quarter-sized amount of Moroccanoil Thickening Lotion to damp hair from root-to-tip to achieve thicker, strengthened hair. Blow dry and style as usual.

3. Letibalm Nose and Lip Balm

Letibalm nose and lip balm comes to the rescue just in time for winter sniffles. Whether you’re suffering from allergies, hay fever, colds or ‘flu, repeated nose blowing can damage delicate skin around the nose and lips, leaving it red, chapped and sore. This gem from Letibalm is available in a tube or tub and helps to care for and protect the lips, nose and skin in-between when it’s taking a beating in colder weather. I love both of these products because they gently moisturise dry skin and help to repair painful cracks and calm irritation on the lips and around the nose. Plus, thanks to natural decongestants, menthol and camphor, Letibalm also helps to ease breathing when you’re feeling all clogged up. But it’s not just for winter, you can use this great balm all year round to protect your skin from wind and sun in summer too!

Letibalm Nose and Lip Balm
Letibalm (10ml fluid or jar) is available from Dis-Chem, selected Checkers stores and independent pharmacies at a recommended retail price of R69.90.

4. Freeman Beauty Infusion Cleansing Clay Mask with Charcoal + Probiotics

I love pampering myself with a good mask at home. It’s the quickest way to destress and give my skin that ‘just stepped out of the spa’ look. This serum-infused clay mask from Freeman is definitely one of my new favourite masks to treat my skin at home. Activated Charcoal helps to give your skin a deep cleanse, by drawing out toxins and bad that cause breakouts. The mask doesn’t over dry your skin but you might want to use a heavier night cream on your skin after using it as it can leave dehydrated skin feeling a little dry. My skin felt super smooth after using this mask and I loved the ultra clean feel it offered. I tried the travel size and got about 3 uses from 15 ml package, so a little goes a long way with this mask! To use apply the mask to the face and neck, avoiding contact with eyes, let it dry and then rinse with warm water. Freeman recommends you use the mask twice a week but I prefer to use it once a week as my skin is on the dry side.

5. L.A Girl Pro HD Matte Finish Setting Spray

If you’re a big fan of wearing a full face of makeup then you’ll also know how frustrating it can be when your hard work doesn’t stay put. This setting spray from L.A Girl goes a long way to helping you keep that beautiful finish of freshly applied makeup. The ultra-fine, non-sticky formula sets makeup for all day wear and also gives your skin a little refreshing boost when it needs it most. The product dries quickly and is also paraben and fragrance-free so it shouldn’t cause any irritation on the skin. There’s a reason this setting spray is loved by beauty editors everywhere and there’s no doubt you’ll adore it too. The product claims to offer a matte finish but I found that I get more of a beautiful dewy finish, which I love. I don’t wear a full face of makeup often but when I do this stuff makes it stay put and ensures I don’t transfer any makeup onto my clothing or other people.

6. Ice Box Colours New Unicorn-Inspired Polish

This winter, embrace the spirit of the majestic unicorn on your nails with a fresh range of magical new colours from Ice Box Colors. New colours include Vanilla Ice (a creamy sparkle), Kaleidoscopic (an iridescent lilac), Mermaids are Real (a seafoam green), and Mermaid Kisses (a magical blue). Vanilla Ice is hands down my favourite and offers a sheer golden finish. It can be worn on its own over your favourite shade to create a new look. I also love Mermaids are Real which offers a beautiful shimmery finish that little girls and grown women will love. The great thing about Ice Box Colors is that the products are 3-free meaning they don’t contain any formaldehyde, toluene, or dibutyl phthalate.

7. Palladio Butter Me Up Sheer Colour Balm

This soft, creamy lip balm moisturises, protects, and softens lips while making them oh-so-kissable. Made with a super-soft moisturising formula, it keeps my lips feeling soft and gorgeous for ages after applying. The sheer product feels beyond weightless on the lips and offers a lustrous, long-lasting shine that I love. It gives lips a beautiful sweep of colour and I loved the soft purple Sugar Plum colour I tried. Available in eight shade selections and housed in pretty colourful packaging that reflects the colour inside, these coloured lip balms will prove to be a lifesaver for low-maintenance beauty queens.

8. Penpharm Paw Paw Ointment & Cream

I’m a huge fan of Paw Paw ointments and this one from Penpharm is a great solution to treat burns, chaffing, cracked skin, splinters, open wounds, insect bites and nappy rash this winter. Penpharms Paw Paw Ointment and Cream’s active ingredient is Carica Papaya Fruit Extract which assists with cleansing and nourishing the skin, returning it back to its natural state. It relieves dry and chapped skin, as well as soothes and relieves minor skin irritations. It also protects against the drying effects of wind and cold weather and provides sunburn care. In addition to all those other great uses, Paw Paw Ointment & Cream also helps to relieve nappy rash, insect bites and sores.

9. TRESemmé Botanique Range

This winter TRESemmé is celebrating natural hair with the new TRESemmé Botanique range. This high-quality wash and care system is free of parabens, dyes, silicones and lower in sulphates to breathe new life into a hair care regime whilst celebrating “natural” in all its beauty. The range can be used by anyone but is ideally suited for those with dry hair looking for natural solutions to gently cleanse their hair whilst keeping it beautifully soft and healthy looking. The formulation includes Mother Nature’s best ingredients such as Coconut Milk and Aloe Vera to ensure hair is left moisturised, manageable and soft. According to TRESemmé, the Botanique Nourish & Replenish shampoo has lower sulphates that will gently cleanse hair, remove build-up (which dries hair out and promotes breakage) and still retain hair’s moisture. The conditioner, with secret patented technology, will detangle hair and lock in moisture leaving it soft, shiny and easy to manage.
