EXCLUSIVE: Cato Louw on Women in Rugby; “Emotions Are Our Super Power”

Women are making their mark in rugby. Not just on the field as players, but in all spheres of the industry. From broadcasting and commentary, to referees and on-field officials. Speaking to Rugby Informer, renowned sports broadcaster, Cato Louw, says women bring a unique perspective to the world of rugby, especially in the broadcasting space where female interviewers are able to bring audiences a different type of rugby content. One where we get to see the personalities of players shine through and dig a little deeper into what makes them tick, both on and off the field.

It’s this unique perspective that makes Louw’s latest project so captivating. Viewers tuning into ‘1 to 15: What rugby players actually do!’ not only get to learn about the ins-and-outs of the game, but also get a glimpse into the life of each player in the Bulls’ squad. Louw’s lighthearted, casual interview style puts the players at ease, helping them open up, joke around, and speak honestly about what the world of professional rugby is really like.

The online series sees Louw and BrightRock team up with the Vodacom Bulls to help new (and seasoned) rugby fans brush up on their rugby knowledge. Each episode features a one-on-one with a Bulls player to break down their position in a fun and casual way.

But, while Louw is helping fans get to know the Bulls’ squad a little better, we wanted to know what motivates the woman behind the series. Watch as Rugby Informer’s Jeremy Proome sits down with Cato Louw to chat about the new series, how she got started in the industry, and what she believes is a superpower for women in rugby broadcasting:
