Living a low-carb lifestyle isn’t always easy – especially when it comes to eating out and treating yourself. Luckily more and more restaurants are starting to embrace the low-carb lifestyle and we’re seeing low-carb inspired menu items popping up everywhere from burger joints to pizza restaurants. But, what about high tea? Everyone loves a good high tea but when it comes to cakes and sweet eats there aren’t many places you can go that are low-carb friendly. Until now that is, because the oh-so-chic Cellars-Hohenort has recently launched an absolutely fabulous low-carb high tea menu! The new offering offers low-carbers the opportunity to indulge a little and enjoy the finer things in life without compromising your diet too much.
Those wanting to enjoy this stunning new offering can expect a delicious array of low-carb offerings such as succulent Grass-fed Beef & Peppadew Sosaties; Broccoli, Roasted Red Pepper & Goats Cheese Tarts; Prawn Vietnamese Rice Paper Spring Rolls, and a selection of hummus, lavash & crudités. On the sweeter side, guests can enjoy Dark Chocolate & Beetroot Cupcakes, sugar-free Fresh Fruit Pavlova, Yoghurt Honey Panna Cotta, and Homemade Seed & Grain Bars to name but a few. I got the chance to try some of the goodies mentioned above and was beyond surprised at how yummy everything was. The Asian-inspired Rice PaperSpring Rolls are divine and the Homemade Seed & Grain Bars are beyond moreish!
For those who would still like to indulge in carbs a little (sssh – I promise not to tell!), Cellars still offers their signature scones on the menu, but this time around it’s served with sugar-free strawberry jam and whipped cream cheese to keep calories at a minimum. I also stuffed a few of these in my pie hole and you can’t even tell that it’s a low-calorie version. For those still on the carb train – there are healthy sarmie options – dig into delicious bite-size open sandwiches which include toppings such as Coronation Chicken, Roast Beef, and Smoked Salmon on squid ink ciabatta.
Join Cellars-Hohenort for high tea with a difference in The Cellars-Hohenort’s renowned gardens, or even cosied up in front of the fire on those cold winter days. The cost of the Low-carb High Tea is R195 per person including tea or coffee and is available from 15:00 – 17:00 daily. For information and bookings visit the McGrath Collection website or call 021 794 2137.
