Cheers! The First Super-Premium Gin Has Arrived in SA

Brooklyn Gin

Local distributors, Truman & Orange have truly been looking after South African gin lovers. The clever sausages brought the delicious Malfy Italian Gin as well as the much-anticipated Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin to our market and now, they’re back at it again, this time with the super-premium Brooklyn Gin. A must-try for discerning gin enthusiasts, this exciting new addition to the South African gin market is sure to impress.

So what exactly is a ‘super-premium’ gin? While you may think it’s just a bourgie way of saying expensive, what makes Brooklyn Gin a “super-premium” gin is the crafting method and ingredients that are used. To make this delicious gin Brooklyn uses a meticulously perfected recipe containing natural ingredients like Eureka lemon, Key and Persian lime, navel oranges and kumquats. All of which are hand-cut to release essential oils and bring the complexity of the tastes to the fore. Furthermore, these ingredients are used fresh, as opposed to many other gins that use dried ingredients in their manufacturing process.

Here are some key facts about the gin:

  • Color: Clear
  • Nose: Fresh and crisp citrus aroma with touches of lavender.
  • Taste: Complex and layered flavours combining citrus and herbal lavender notes.
  • Finish: Smooth and long with a distinguished floral note.
  • Awards: Double Gold (2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, Double Gold (2015 New York Wine and Spirits Competition), 91 Points (Ultimate Spirits Challenge).

The founders of Brooklyn Gin took the plunge and split from a large spirits manufacturer back in 2010, with the vision of creating a gin using the best ingredients and traditional methods. Coming from Brooklyn in New York, the unique and creative atmosphere had a huge impact on the two founders Joe Santos and Emil Jattne.
