Gabriëlskloof Wine Estate Launches New ‘Lunch Box’ Picnic Experience
A little while ago we shared our 5 must-try catered picnic companies in South Africa with you and now we’ve got yet another exciting picnic morsel to share with our Western Cape readers! Gabriëlskloof, a wine and olive estate in the Overberg, has recently given ‘thinking outside the box’ a delicious new meaning with its new Lunch Box picnic experience. The new offering entices visitors to head out the Overberg area and soak up the farm’s idyllic hillside setting outside Bot River, al fresco style. We can’t wait to check it out!
The exciting new offering launched at the beginning of September and will run until the end of summer 2016. Visitors are encouraged to pop in and tuck into this delicious box of freshly prepared, seasonal delights while gazing out at the beautiful views from the estate.
At R300, the generous Gabriëlskloof Lunch Box is perfect for two adults and offers meaty marvels such as biltong spiced roast beef, parma ham, free range chicken liver parfait, pork and duck rillettes, and mini Overberg lamb pies. Other treats inside include smoked West Coast Snoek quiche, Roosterkoeke (served with artisan cheese and homemade preserves) and for dessert, chocolate marquise pots. Before you head out on your picnic don’t forget to pop into the tasting room for a bottle of wine or head to the on-site deli for some craft beers and additional refreshments. And, once you’re done eating take a stroll around the farm or enjoy an energetic game of boules or croquet on the lawn, to round off your perfect day in the countryside.
“Our restaurant and tasting room is framed by a lush green lawn and glistening reflective ponds, the serene heart of our estate,” shares Nicolene Finlayson, Tasting Room Manager. “It offers the perfect setting for you to spread your blanket and kick off those shoes for a laid-back afternoon, away from the maddening crowds. Gabriëlskloof is not your typical picnic venue crowded with brollies and prams and with our new ‘picnic-style lunch in a box’ we cater for the more intimate lunchtime gatherings in our quad.”
The estate also caters to little ones with a special Under 10 VIP taste bud treat at R75 per child, which includes a ham and cheese roll, yoghurt, mini cheese wedges, juice, crisps, fruit and a selection of old fashioned sweeties.
